Some help please. My wife has her own domain registered for her company and runs her email through gmail. Since late last week, anyone who tries to send her mail receives the following error:

[email protected] on 17 Dec 2019 4:49 PM
Server error: '550 Unrouteable address'

The domain is paid up with ZACR.

This sort of trouble shooting is way above my abilities - any thoughts of what may be the problem? Thanks in advance

I am not detecting an MX record for helenareid.co.za?

And getting an A record of 127.0.0.1? Lol.

Seems like the DNS ain't set up correctly. Where is the domain hosted?

Bit of a loaded question. Log into the domain DNS and correct the settings.

At a minimum you need to point the A records and the MX records. Where is the domain hosted?

The domain was registered with ZACR and then we make use of gmail for mail. Domain is not hosted by anyone.

Was it working previously and then just stopped or has it never worked.

Authoritative DNS servers are listed as ns1.nameserverservice24.de and ns2.nameserverservice24.de but it seems they're not responding as nameservers for the ns query and return 127.0.0.1 for everything.

Does nameserverservice24.de ring a bell? Was the domain registered via the old legacy domain system?

Further to this - the organisation for the dns is Cloud DNS Ltd and the A record used to be hosted at Hezner in Germany. The records were modified 5 days ago. NetHosting24.de is listed as providing the DNS hosting for nameserverservice24.de - Any of this ringing a bell?

Domain was registered in 2006 - a friend did the original setup so don't have a good answer to your question.

Who ever configured it for you originally may need to be called upon to redo it. Maybe DNS was hacked or just mistakenly changed as mentioned above.

At the end of the day it would seem MX is missing.

Thank you, I will try and reach out to him to sort out.

Ah, manual email updates with co.za directly? ZACR does not do manual updates like this anymore.
Who kept those records up to date? http://ah-web.org/?
They seem to be offline too.
The DNS servers nameserverservice24.de ain't responding.

The registrar (co.za) points to your Name servers (DNS). The name servers dishes out your A (hosted domain ip)), MX (mail server) records. This DNS is not responding, leading to your issues. You would need to contact whomever set this up for you, since there is something wrong somewhere, DNS wise.

Thank you so much for all your trouble - really appreciate it!

Would an easier solution not be to delete it and then recreate it?

Ok most likely whats happened is the friend used a DNS service he had access to set up the records and that DNS service either ceased working or the zone was deleted. You need to get a new DNS server provider which most registrars in SA provide as a free service. Contact domains.co.za and ask them to help transfer the domain to them and change the DNS records. Historically the domain A record was:

88.198.0.231

and the MX records were pointed as follows:

aspmx5.googlemail.com.helenareid.co.za
aspmx4.googlemail.com.helenareid.co.za
aspmx3.googlemail.com.helenareid.co.za
aspmx2.googlemail.com
aspmx.l.google.com
alt2.aspmx.l.google.com
alt1.aspmx.l.google.com

@domains.co.za - Help the guy out plz.

I'm not sure if its possible to update legacy records but if you can manage to contact ZACR at [email protected] and ask if its possible to change the DNS servers? I can provide authoritative name servers in the interim for free if domains.co.za can't help? I'm pretty sure they can though if you call and explain.

Thank you - I will call again tomorrow - they were pretty much giving me the story of 'that's how our system works...'.

Ok well the offer stands if you get no joy from domains.co.za - just email [email protected] and ask them how to change the NS records in the interim until you can transfer the domain in January. PM me if you don't get any joy from domains.co.za but can get ZACR to update the records.
