586 km/h RC plane!

Wonder what that thing costs...

The turbine alone is about R30k, the bigger one is about R40k.
A 2m scale model is about R20k. Not that specific plane though.
Now add the electronics for the turbine, radio kit & little extras and I suspect you are looking in the region of about R70k+ for your toy.
Wonder what that twin turbine SR-71 in the link above costs as it is massive and the twin turbines much bigger as well. Gotto love the orange glow coming out the back though, looks & sounds real.

If only Santa would bring me one...

I like how the kid flies the thing and not the (presumably) dad. Probably because he has better reflexes. That thing looks insanely difficult to pilot as well! If you lose track of its orientation for just a second, you can end up flying it in the wrong direction and out of range, i would think.

I read the blog for the SR-71 build. Took them like 5 years to do it by hand using some interesting materials. They ended up making molds of all the panels, so they can reproduce one relatively quickly.
Cost on it would probably be in the hundreds of thousands taking just the labour into account.

My neighbours will love that flying around in the morning. :)

Such epicness.

Satellite controlled, that thing could deliver documents to other countries faster than anything else.

Ja, who needs SA broadband :D Just pot a couple of SSD's or flash disks into the fuselage and send it to a friend. Range & fuel I foresee being an issue though...

Got a link please? Would like to read it.

Need moar info!
But, visions of a computer controlled world-wide network of these babies keep filling my mind.

That thing is epic......

Must have been plowed into the ground a few times before the guys got the hang of it
