Hey guys,

Has anyone dealt with these people yet? What are they like?

BREAKING NEWS from 59.co.za

You can get a 30 GIG ADSL account for only R499 per month from 59.co.za
Doesn't say wether its SAIX/UUNet/IS...

Thanks.

Sheez thats cheap (in SA terms!)

There must be a catch :(
Maybe like a 'pay R499 for first couple months, thereafter R800pm' type thing.. I dunno

Anyway
We are proud to say that our service is provided through the SAIX (South African Internet Exchange) network, which means that our connection is as fast, or faster, than your current supplier, because we all connect to the exact same infrastructure.

Doh! Shot for pointing that out, can't believe I missed it :o Sounds cool, anyone tried this?

499 is a good price! Website looks a bit dodgy to me though.
Where are the 10 and 20 gb accounts? R499 is far too much still for most people for a ISP

Extremely good price. Because there are so many fly-by-night companies out there, I'm always a little sceptical when I see a "new" company offering a service for so much less than anyone else. I'm also interested to know if anyone has had any experience with this company.

No idea who they are. As for me I would go with the guys at Axxess Africa or Imaginet. Both these companies have been around since the mid 90's.
My personal pref is Axxess.

I haven't had experience with either Imaginet or Axxess, but I've heard good things about both. My first instinct is to go with Axxess because of all the excellent feedback we've received, which has really impressed me. The only advantage of going with Imaginet is that they offer 20MB for web hosting and they offer 10 email accounts as apposed to the 1 with Axxess.

Slike -
Dot Net 2 is about (-4) months old (Gets released in november 2005), and already people are advertising for people who have 5 years experience in it, and this thread is asking for people with experience using a brand new company.

Same concept.

Stoke, do you know for a fact they are a brand new company? If so then you obviously know more than some of us do. When I checked their domain registration date, it was registered in 2002, so I presumed they might have been around for a while, even though I had never heard of them.

don't forget the R150 activation fee and no-prorata thingie .... so if you don't start at 1st of the month you are screwed ...

I apologise VQuest, I'm not usually this unhelpful.

So - gave them a call and asked some questions.
They've been around for 2.5 years, re-selling SAIX dialup.
So now they're expanding the product range.

Offices are in Cape Town, obviously the product offering is nationwide.

Current status (10H30 on Monday 13th Jun 2005) - 30GB ADSL account not available, SAIX have put it on hold - something to do with the contract. They said that they'd have it sorted by Wed.

I'd really like to know why Tellscum is sitting on their butts not trying to compete with all these new offerings? They know something we don't?......... that's a really scary thought.

I reckon they have a trick up their sleeve come the SNO.. can't wait to see what it is but I'm sure we will be surprised.

Perhaps they will do away with line rental entirely and offer low cost ADSL.. same as happened to BT.. except for the line rental part, they had more intelligence than that.

As far as I know they're re-writing their billing software so you're not forced to buy a completely new account from them when you run out of the 3gig one.

My guess is that when said software is in place and working, you will see Telkom offering new packages (and even better) those currently on offer.

You may be thinking, "what is this guy smoking...!?" well.... it's Telkom, they always seem to suprise me :D
