Hi all.

Has anybody within coverage managed to get 5G on their iPhone 12?

Is there any specific setting that needs to be enabled from MTN’s side in order to use 5G?

You need to be in an area that has 5G coverage

I went to:
- settings
- general
- about

It then updated my network provider/carrier settings to MTN 45.1

After that it showed 5G as an option in the data settings.

It does seem to switch between 5G and LTE, even if you are in a 5G coverage area.

Thanks DemonSplicer! I have the exact same settings on my phone and live within coverage but it seems like it is refusing to connect to 5G. Not too sure what the issue could be here though. Popped into iStore and MTN and they couldn't help me.

Moving 20/50 or 100 meters also seem to make a difference it seem.

Being in full coverage does not seem to guarantee a 5G connection. To test it, maybe drive around within the coverage area to see? Like I said, if I move 20 meters it would switch from LTE to full bar 5G - to me it appears that 5G signal’s range is shorter, and probably requires more towers to be more densely installed? When I drive around in the coverage area it switches between LTE and 5G regularly. Try to get closer to a tower to see if it helps? Also assuming you have an issued nano sim and not a manually cut down sim? I read somewhere that older sims may be an issue. Assuming you also removed and re-inserted the sim, and rebooted your phone to troubleshoot? I am on contract - hope it helps?

Centurion. Upload isn't great, but I'm impressed by the download speed.

Was at Tiger wheel and Tyre this morning in Centurion and got similar results. If only my home Internet could be like this.

Still yet to have 5G on my side despite when being in coverage as shown on their map. MTN has not been helpful and iStore don't know either.

Could it physically be the phone or is this a carrier problem?

I'm assuming you've got it set to "5G on" and not "5G auto"?

These are my current settings. Very frustrating. My phone is from the US, however it still has the same 5G band coverage with the addition of UW. Could this be causing the issue?
