Once again Telskum showed me that they are as incapable as anyone can be.

As a matter of fact, I don't think that any other company in the world, let alone South Africa, can be as inefficient as Telskum.

6 - 8 weeks to transfer an ADSL line within the same exchange?

u will be lucky if it gets done in 8 weeks .... I am waiting 12 weeks now .... but it is a different exchange ... all I can suggest ... is to keep phoning and checking on the status ..... or it may never end up happening at all :)

My transfer within the same exchange took 8 weeks, it would of been 4 but somehow they wanted to reinstal the line at the same place where it was supposed to have been disconected.
Then the line was up for about 4 days and then my line went dead and that took another 3 daysto repair.
So hang in there its not you have a choice:D

Try 5 months. Waiting for a transfer. Same exchange. 3rd installation date coming up.

Unless this was written by you, you're far from alone in this matter! This from today's Daily News:

Letters - Reaching the end of the line
June 1, 2006

A month and a half ago I applied to have my ADSL line moved to my new premises....From Duncan Austin of Durban

I am a web developer and rely on ADSL for my income, so you can imagine my frustration as it still hasn't been moved. My new premises actually has an ADSL line (disconnected when the previous tenants left) so it's simply a question of activating an account and not laying new lines.

On the appointed installation big day (I had a confirmed appointment), I went to our local Ballito office to find out what time Telkom would be around. To my dismay and mounting panic (because my business is suffering severely) I was told that the technical guys don't even have the order!

The lady behind the counter at Telkom launched on to the trail to find the responsible party, only to be fobbed from person to person. It's some consolation to see that Telkom also gives Telkom the run-around.
Eventually she reached the end of the trail at the number of a certain individual. But this person never answers his phone. His receptionist even checked to see if he was in his office, which he was, but he doesn't answer his phone.

After making a valiant effort she gave up. What could she do? He doesn't answer his phone. End of the line.

Since Telkom has a mandate as South Africa's only provider, and since it is failing to meet this mandate, surely it is liable for the damage it is doing to my business? I would like to hear from lawyers on whether Telkom can be held liable for loss of income directly related to its neglect of its mandate? Come on guys, how about a class action suit?

I called Telkom today to find out how long it would take to transfer my line to my new apartment 3km's away from where i presently reside, the answer was the same 6-8 weeks but it could be shorter maybe 5 weeks. I also enquired what the cost will be and i was told that the transfer would be R 360 and to re-activate my adsl line would be R 404 again. After throwing my toys out of my cot and telling the operator what a rip off this is, she spoke to her supervisor who then informed me that they would waive the transfer cost. Sucks doesn't it???

Okay so this is week number 9 for me :( My story gets better..

When i first ordered they promised that i could get 512k in my area..

I get a phone call the other day from Telkuk INSISTING, not asking me, that i HAVE to settle with 192k as my exchange doesn't offer 512k - after they confirmed over the line that i COULD get 512..

I told the guy over the phone that I will only settle with 512 and he puts down!

Where do u guys reckon i go from here?

If i were you settle for now with the 192 once your line is up and running then ask for it to be upgraded to a 512. Slow adsl is better than no adsl at all :)

I applied for ADSL for my parents about 4 months ago and still nothing!!!
