Bloemfontein - Six suspects have been arrested after they allegedly killed two people in separate incidents in Bloemspruit, Free State police said on Tuesday.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 32, were arrested following information from residents, police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said.
They were found in a shack in Phase 9 in the Bloemfontein suburb on Monday morning. Their clothes were covered in blood and four knives were recovered in the dwelling.
The murders were committed in the early hours of Monday. The first victim was found lying in the street without any identification, and the other was found stabbed to death next to his kitchen door.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
On Saturday, three people were killed in separate incidents in Bloemspruit.
Officers on patrol received information about the body of a man near a house in Phase 10 at 01:40. They found a man in a pool of blood, with an empty wallet next to his body. He had a stab wound to his chest.
Another man was found with a stab wound to the chest in Phase 9 at 07:10, also apparently the victim of a robbery.
A woman was found in a storm water drain in nearby Grasslands. She had been stabbed in the head, cheek, and her throat had been slit. She was aged between 30 and 35.
Kareli said investigations would determine if the suspects were linked to all the murders.
