600w Lestech PSU - Enough for my Radeon 7970?

Sup all,

My PC runs pretty well with no major problems, I started playing Tomb Raider on my PC and what happens is that my PC randomly reboots when I play any game that is graphically demanding.

Could it be that even though my PSU is 600w, the brand isn't good and therefore failing to deliver the juice required?

If so please recommend a really good brand which isn't stupidly priced.

Another question, what's the best RAM I can buy in terms of price to performance ratio. I have 8gb of corsair memory in my basket on takealot for R1, 746 but don't want to confirm the purchase until I get some opinions. I'd also prefer just to walk into a store in JHB and buy it as opposed to waiting for days to get it.

Computer stuff is always more expensive in store. Corsair is awesome ram though.

As for power supply I've never heard of that brand before. If you're buying off takealot:

I had the same problem a while back. Seemingly random reboots during graphics intensive games. At first I thought it was my GPU, but it turned out to be a failing PSU.
 
So I quickly checked what psu you had and the information on it.

Congrats you have a fully BEE complaint PSU! :D

On if it can power the 7970? Take a pic on the side of the psu and the label and tell me wattage on the 12v rail and amperage.

It can be the following:

Cpu overheating
Cpu dying
Motherboard overheating
motherboard dying (my recent RMA adventure was exactly the same problem with a motherboard)
graphics card dying
graphics card overheating
PSU voltages dipping under stress
driver issues
game issues

What are the specifications of your setup?

as for ram, check your QVL for your motherboard first to see what ram is compatible with no issues.

I think the PSU is rebranded foxcon PSU's probably. I don't think we have the capability to produce psu's locally... :whistle:

I tried researching that PSU and couldn't find a single result on the interwebs.
Since I don't know the PSU I can't tell you whether to use it or not but I can tell you what to consider.
Some PSU's claim to have the capacity for 500watt etc. power supply but most of them do not give you the full power wattage advertised by the brand. Even Cooler Master and Gigabyte does this and they are massive brands.
Also take into consideration how long you've had that PSU and if you decide to buy a new PSU then always choose a recommended PSU simplified by user twerk here:

If you post a picture of the PSU label, I can tell you which OEM makes it. Considering that they say "Foxconn 400W" on their full PC builds and they are a Foxconn partner, there's no doubt that it's a crappy PSU anyway.
 
Has the PSU worked before?
I don't know of a PSU with rails that degrade over time.
Chances are it's faulty or your gpu is going.

Corsair 8gb ram??
find cheaper, it's the same thing
 
Most people have offered up possible problems for you to troubleshoot, but it could also be dodgy ram. Try removing one stick at a time and running the game to see if it crashes.

I doubt it's my GPU because the GPU is relatively new... I'm going to get a better PSU and chuck out my old ram and replace it with something better.

Any brands I should go for? I was thinking Corsair but I hear its expensive and I can get the same for cheaper?
 
crappy fong kong caps, two fans wow, it means it most likely has cooling issues the skimped on the rectifying bridges fins, pretty doubtful that it is able to supply 600watt, it says 775 ready which means it is a damn old design meaning the 12volt rails will be flaky at best. Drop kick the PSU far far far far far far far far far away. :p

Corsair, Bequiet, XFX, seasonic, antec about the best local brands you can get, Their bronze models is priced pretty decently, however just remember bronze units are suited to ocing, they might be good and reliable, but they start getting flaky when it comes to OCing.You will be spending about a grand on the bronze models, XFX is the cheapest, takealot has them as far as I know, you can't go wrong with them.

They always have the raidmax 850watt AE which I got to replace my corsair GS700 that simply popped a few months ago, made by andyson pretty decent, and it's modular, the gold rating is however a bit of a stretch.
