Whos managed to get a stable 64 bit OS working?
Ive ran the d/l and all went well, installing the ATI drivers was a bit difficult ,till i played around with them then got it semi OK.
(Ati do say use at own risk).
Just battling a bit with my soundblaster drivers, which I did d/l from them but sound doesnt sound the same.
Although (also use at own risk).
Just wonderd how anyone else was doing with this experiment.

BTW for peeps who didnt know it is a legal d/l from microsoft.

PS; since switching from a P4 3.4 to a AMD 64 3500 athlon my machine hasnt crashed once and its been 1 week now.P4 would have crashed 5 times already.
I think its time to give a serious look at AMD.

AT the mo intel is just not up to scratch for me.....its like ive joined a whole new computing world.

The crashing was probably a result of insufficient cooling, those Prescotts get mighty warm ;) It could also be the motherboard or memory at fault.

It will still be another few years before 64 bit apps and games are prevalent enough to warrant the switch to WinXP-64 (unless you have a pressing need to address more than 4GB of ram right now). At this point 64 bit is not the mecca that the AMD/Intel PR machine is hyping it up to be.

Heating maybe.... not to sure...always got error of a device driver, couldnt tell me which one.
Since ive had this AMD....smoooooth running all the way,And I never thought Id buy AMD....lol

hey SK33T, welcome to the AMD club. i went from a 1900+ Athlon to a 2.6 P4 and am currently on a AMD64 3500+ (Newcastle). best PC i've ever owned. then again, i could ascribe that to my X800XT....

I'm in the other camp Cloud, 2.8 P4 Northwood running at 3.2 with 6800 GT running at Ultra speeds... certainly handles Doom 3 and HL 2 with ease (both at 1600x1200 :D)

At this point if I bought a new machine I'd probably get an AMD given that price/performance wise it's kicking Intel in the nads, especially if you're a gamer.

awww why not the 4000 :D

Razor, picked up the cpu back in December. Its just a small overclock to get it to 4000+ speeds anyway. But trust me, there is no game out there that my pc cannot handle currently.
