640mb 8800gts - R4000

i have a legend 6600gt was an awesome card

legend make very good card if you ask me and all 8800 are mostly the same
 
yup... prophecy have notoriously good prices on certain items...

incidentally, that is the same price as the 2900XT is going for. compare the two cards thoroughly and decide then...

I'm not the biggest expert when it comes to GPU's...
If I knew for certain that the 2900XT is better I'd buy it without blinking, but having read through some posts on the 2900XT, it seems that ppl don't like it as much...
Does any of you own a 2900XT and are you happy with it's performance?
 
i do, and yes, i am happy with the performance...

the guys that comment on how bad the card is dont seem to be in possession of one themselves... ShockG also has one, and he loves his as well

at this point in time, the 2900xt presents about the same value as the 8800GTS 640MB, with a bit of performance extra... i think i have a link here somewhere

please note, drivers are still being improved, with the latest drivers improving the OpenGL performance SIGNIFICANTLY

and i got voucher for HL episode 2 :) as well as team fortress2 and Portal! you get this free with the purchase of a 2900XT. cant wait for those!

Very nice link indeed, the 2900xt is atm the card I'll be going for..
What's the chance of them significantly improving the drivers to fix the performance issues/glitches we've been reading about in some of the other reviews?
And I do know I'm being lazy, but what guarantee is there on the GeCube card from prophecy? (Could only find a 2900xt on sale from them, and it doesn't show the duration of the guarantee...)

And a last question (also a noob one)...
How's the drivers for Windows XP?
(I currently have 3 different ISP connections running using Route Sentry and RASPPPOE, andd Vista currently doesn't support the RASPPPOE)

very good chance :) i would not have bought the card if i thought they wouldnt improve the drivers. i stand under correction, but the same thing happened with the last generation of ATI cards (X1000) as well as the nVidia counterparts.

as far as i am aware, you get a one year guarantee. best bet is to ask on the forums?

not sure myself :) seeing as the games havent been released yet i havent gotten around to trying it out :D but i assume that you will be allowed to enter your voucher number on Steam the moment they are available for download

woah nelly! the Vista i've seen had RASPPPOE by default. anybody else perhaps also seen this? flatmate needed RASPPPOE and i tried to install the XP version, which was a bad idea :D made a nice big blue screen. turned out that it had RASPPPOE already on there!

Will I be able to run three different connections on vista though? I know you can create one RASPPPOE connection, and Route Sentry can work, but you have to have only two accounts, one being on the router (half-bridged mode) and then the other you can create on vista (but only one???)

Anyways, what would you guys have bought?
The R4000 GeCube Radeon 2900xt
or
The R4600 ASUS Radeon 2900xt (think it has three years warranty)
 
i seriously doubt that the gecube is any less than the asus man

rather use that 600 to buy a bigger

what power supply do you have?
 
Gecube basicly sell ATI referance cards afaik, i'd go for it over the asus, the asus not worth the extra bucks. A friend has a gecube X1800XT & he loves it to bits.

Check out the general ADSL forums here, someone posted a solution a while back, theres a Route Sentry Beta for Vista and they get around having to use RASPPPOE, a few guys have got it to work.

Oh, and get the GeCube over Asus for R600.

Well AP0c isn't exactly a normal SA retailer, but thats a great price on a much better (well, more expensive at least) brand than Legend.

I've just been informed by prophecy that they don't have any GeCube 2900XT's left in stock and that the new stock will be going for R4500...

So : Dunno if this is stupid, but I think I'll be settling for the XFX 320MB 8800GTS from www.pcint.co.za (R2850 incl.)
