Hi Guys

I need to buy a laptop which will run Cad / Autocad.
Someone tells me i better get a 64 bit chip for a 64 bit OS on it cos i will only be able to see 3gig ram on a 32 bit chip/os.

How do i differentiate a 32 bit chip and 64 bit chip when buying a laptop cos the ones i've seen don't mention whether its 32 or 64?

Thanks guys

Any Core2Duo notebook you look at now *IS* 64-bit - about the only thing to question is where it's capable of hardware virtualisation ...but I don't think that's a concern for you! :p Rather focus on other things like screen size/drive options/OS optimisation for how YOU want it to run.

Oh and don't forget budget - that one's a killer.

As bdt said, I don't know where you will buy a new 32 bit chip anyway.
Screan size and memory is what you're looking for if you want to use CAD.

Running Cad on my Laptop
Core 2 duo 2.4ghz, 32bit
2gb ram
15.4" screen
nvidia 9400m

these specs are more than adequate enough. If you want to run the 3d graphic stuff than i would suggest getting a laptop with a graphics card.
