I was wondering if its possible to get windows xp64bit to run with a sentech usb modem via the network cable option ? As my pc hangs intermitently with my modem at this stage and i think its the pc and modem not realy getting along well at this stage also will getting the network cable and running normal xp solve the crashes ?

You can connect a MyWireless modem to an Ethernet port using the special Ethernet cable using PPPoE. When you install the IPW drivers you are given the choice of USB or PPPoE, but I would guess that if you are having trouble with the IPW drivers in USB mode, the chances are quite good that you will also have trouble with them in PPPoE mode.

However, WinXP, and I'm sure WinXP 64 too, have PPPoE drivers built-in, so you can connect directly to a PPPoE compatible modem, so bypassing the IPW drivers completely. I haven't done this myself.

You will save yourself a lot of time and trouble if you just buy a cheapish 4-port router with PPPoE WAN port (e.g. ASUS RX3041 or D-Link DI-604) or a bit more expensive D-Link DI-804HV (with SPI) or DI-624 (with wireless)). Not only will you get a built-in hardware firewall, but you will also be able to share your internet connection between multiple computers, without have to worry about ICS or other sharing programs.

I have a new D-Link DI-624 wireless router for R700 if you are interested, includes delivery.

I have done this with windows xp 64bit. Using Iburst. The drivers of the USB Iburst does not work on 64bit. You can connect using PPPoE, it bypasses the drivers and works even beter than the USB drivers or so i heard!

Working fine

Hi there for those interisted the usb modem with ethernet cable runs just perfectly on windows xp64bit and windows xp32bi with no drivers installed at all just normal pppoe and I have since invested in a linksys wrt54gl router and its running just perfectly on that as well no problems and no more freezing , I have a dual core athlon and seems the normal usb modem or its drivers gives hassles on em . Just thought ppl would like to know before investing in the cable or a router .
