Morning All,
I have a quick question about connecting speed, and hope dearly that one of you guys can clear this up for me. I recently received a nokia 6680, connected to the internet via pc suite using gprsUSB or that is what the connection said and all worked fine. But here is my question. The connection icon in the system tray said connected at 485kb/s, now i know there is some kind of differance with bytes/s and bits/s. Can someone please tell me what is the true speed at which I connected and how this compares to normal dialup speeds of about 50kb/s.

Many Thank
Dirk

The connection speed listed by windows is not a true reflection of yoru speed, it merely shows the connection speed between your PC & your Phone.

You might be getting low speeds because your only getting GPRS & not 3G. Doe you see the 3G logo under the antenna bar on your phone?

I have done some tests with a 6680 and gotten great speeds when covered by a 3G cell. The results are here http://www.netlife.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=29

I have found my 6680 switches between 3G and GSM constantly. I think this is because the signal strenghts are more or less similar in strength?

I used menu 81.1 of the netmonitor menu to make the phone only use 3G. Speeds are near 360 kbps just like alchamy gets.

The speed is very good on my 6680, when covered by 3G in the office. Normally between 350kbps and (yes, get this) 440 kbps.

ja, I don't get it. One of my speedtests showed 410 kbps, I thought 3G can only do 364kbps? I think its probably the Telkom speed test that's not accurate.

I think its a combination of the telkom speed test being a little higher than reality and bursts, even on dialup you could get 8-9 down on a burst.

384Kbps on 3G.
Speed variations are usually caused by browser caching and variances in data throughput calculations on your local TCP/IP stack
