Well just returned from my MTNSP store with my New 6680. I have it on charge now and trying to read through the manuals and everything else. There are quite a few free downloads and things that come with the phone and a 64 meg memory card (wasn't sure which one they came with as Nokia.com couldn't specifiy and said it was network/country dependent.) Even comes with the PC cable to connect your phone to the PC. Which is the first i've seen it being issued with the phone

I would just like to specifically thank MTNhandsets for all his help when I had problems with the MTNSP store, and for all the advice, and everything he did etc... It was well worth the wait

I'm not happy with my 6680. There are 2 major issues on the phone!

1st, it charges continuously. I left it for about 10 hours non stop, it never stopped charging.

2nd, MTN has loaded their logo on the phone and it pops up just before the actual screen saver. It switches on the backlight, keeps it on for quite a while and later the date and time screen saver comes on. I've tried my best and could not remove that garbage! What where those guys thinking? I want my phone in tip top condition! No unnecessary junk someone thought would be nice.

Needless to say the phone is going back tomorrow!

Since Nokia revealed the phone and it was still shown as “coming soon” I wanted one and knew that would be my next phone! But I’m very upset about the quality.

you can fix both problems by flashing the firmware, also its a symbian phone so you can just change to the original logo or whatever by resetting factory settings or if they tampered with that too you just get seleq (like windows explorer for series 60 phones) and go to the C drive in C:/system/logo and delete that folder, also you can clean the ram with the same technique

Can I flash the firmware myself or do I have to take the phone to mtn or somebody else?

if you got the cables you can flash yourself, but for the official firmware you take it to nokia, its a mission but you'll probably get something out of it, they gave me a 32mb mmc card with software (that i already had downloaded :p) and an appology

I would like to know how to do it myself. And where to get the firmware.

I know Siemens has made it easy for they’re SX1 users. I don’t like the phone but I must complements them for making upgrading the phone so painless. The latest firmware can be downloaded from their site! I do not know if Nokia does the same but don’t think they do, which I think is very sad!

Got my N6680 yesterday.Phone is everything the reviews said it was.
Currently I have a 16k card in the phone but it seems to pick up 3g.
Got this phone on upgrade.
Need to know can I get a sim swop as my contract has been upgraded.

About the issue with the screensaver. Just go to profiles, screensaver, and change it from screensaver to something else.

Anyone else having an issue with their gallery disappearing? I'm sure I read it here soewhere but now for the life of me can't find it.

6680_6681 Possible MMC corruption in sales package MMC

It is possible that in some situations using Nokia 6680 there may be abnormal
failures of the RS-MMC memory card included in the sales package.
A certain batch of 6680 MMC modules included in sales package might be
affected of these abnormal failures.
Note: RS-MMCs, not part of the original sales package, are not affected.
Symptoms:
After some use, the following symptoms may appear:
- Images or the whole images directory disappears
- Gallery thumbnails disappear
- Messages stored on the MMC become unusable
- Other MMC data is corrupted
- The MMC becomes fully unusable

My gf just got the 6680 and that's where I've noticed most of the problems you're describing. Here gallary is missing, and there are a few folders that, when you try and delete them it says Memory Card Corrupted. I was just going to format the memory card, but should I rather just return it?

I got my 6680 again, new one actually.

The initial problems is now sorted. Last night I connected to the internet using the phone as a modem. And again I feel the phone is overrated.

The 5140 in all the time I used it to connect to the internet it never dropped a connection. The 6680 drop the connection three times in 2 hours.

you need to be carefull and only delete with software on the actual phone, DO NOT delete from windows and more importantly DO NOT format from windows unless you can guarantee it will be a FAT 16 format and that theres no 'Recycled' data on the mmc.

Either download and install Seleq to manage files on the phone or buy a card reader (they're pretty cheap you can get them for 70 - 110 bucks)

We tried deleting it using first the software on the phone, then using FExplore and also tried from a PC. They all gave the same error. Finally we formatted the entire memory card. It's sorted the problem out, all pics are back in gallery etc. but my concern is, is it going to happen again? Was it just a formatting issue, or is it the actual card that is slowly dying??

Had mine with the exact same problem, formatting worked fine for two weeks, after which card corrupted again, had my RSMMC swopped out at Nokia.

How to Remove MTN Logo

Been trying to figure this out for a while now and I finally got it:

Menu/Tools/Themes/Nokia/Edit/Screen Saver/Date and Time.

It seems that MTN have bundled their logo with the Nokia default screensaver, so if you choose date and time as the screensaver you get rid of the horrible MTN logo.
