670 pricing fail..

I find it interesting that South Africa does not have a local manufacturer to make the cards here, would be so much cheaper or am i wrong in this regard ?

I've just seen that the gtx670 is priced at around R4.8-4.9k, ..kinda pointless imo when you can get a 680 delivered for R5099:

Personally I'll wait for the 7850's to come down in price.. (not comparing the two, just saying)

But the Gigabyte 670 OC is just about as fast as the 680, plus stock on that 680 you linked is just about finished, and you won't see that price again. And you have better cooling on the Gigabyte 670 OC

To manufacture these cards in SA would make them INSANELY expensive!

i beg to differ

If you know of a local company that can do automated assembly of these type of components for a price that comes close to the prices of having it done abroad, please let me know.

You know of local companies that can manufacture PCB's at the same price as for example China? Because last I checked, even local companies asked a 20th of the normal price, if you order sufficient quantities of PCBs and are willing to wait for them to get the produce from China.
I'm not even going to discuss the costs involved with assembling/manufacture, but in my experience it's rather...pricey.

That's better!

That's based on Nvidia's reference design. Expect oc'd versions to cost a bit more, which will have custom pcb's, custom power phases and custom cooling which should justify the price increase.

Ya at the moment I see no reason why anyone would buy a 7950 or 7970 for that matter unless, the 7950 is a good couple hundred rands cheaper.
Nv are definitely forcing AMD to drop their prices..

Good for everyone! :)

Thats an easy one - no stock. Expect the exact same scenario with the 670 as with the 680 where after the initial batch the cards are almost permanently out of stock. Remember that not only is TSMC suffering from poor wafer starts, but Nvidia is also suffering from poor yields. So its a double whammy

edit: for clarity - though when GTX6xx is in stock, the choice is obvious!

True, but in the end only time will tell.
