6990 with 6970

I think they should work in CrossFire.
You might have to end up down clocking the HD6970 to the speed of the 6990 so that their speeds are synchronized, which might give you even better performance.

I would rather just get 2x HD6970's, which would already give you insane performance.

I have 2x GTX 460 OC cards and I can play BattleField: Bad Company 2 on max details (AA @ 16x + AF @ 16x) on 2560x1600 with a framerate of 40-60fps, so I don't know why you'd even want to go for something even stronger.
I do hope that you have a very big case - bigger than the Coolermaster 690 II Advanced, which I have...

Yup i got the haf 932 and a corsair 750w which may struggle but i will test it before i change it.
 
Y? Surely a 6990 is fine for any game you can play now? unless you plan on doing some bit mining?

Indeed :D. I need to test it out and i bought the 6970 but then the difficulty went up so now it can only 8 a month. So it will take so long to see how it works. I want something that will mine me 5 a week so i can see how the payment works.

If things go well i will be setting up a mining operation but i need to make sure this is worth it before i drop 100k on a farm :D.

Yea that is why i just want to run a few cards first, if it fails well then i have a power card for bf 3 and i can sell off the 6970 which i will do anyhow.
 
Good luck selling the 6970, because I struggled to find a buyer for my card (Asus 6970 DirectCU II which retails for over R4000), which I've now sold for under R2800.

Ya i can flog it for like 2.5k, not that big a loss hey. Paid 3.5k for my saphire and i would expect to lose money. If i had known bitcoin would become more difficult i would have got the 6990 but it changed two days after i bought LOL

AFAIK, you don't need to crossfire them in order to mine, you can run two instances of the app. Like you would if you did mining on your cpu and gpu at the same time...

Well i put em in crossfire and all is good, 3 6970's. Running at around 70 degrees. Going to struggle in summer.

Interestingly my corsair 750w can handle all with ease, getting 1.1ghash's :D.
 
Thats pretty good, although i'm sure your CPU must be idling.. I'd like to see if it can handle 3GPU's and the CPU at 100%

I'll get the miner to use my cpu as well tonight and check. Then it will be pulling 100% on everything.

Well i am running bitcoin with the 2 cards and my cpu is going full throttle :D, awesome PSU this corsair is.
