7" Android Tab

Don't want to steal your thread but I'd like to know if there are any cheap 7" Android tablets out the with GPS and 3G. The idea is to load Waze on it and use that as a GPS instead of getting a new Garmin/TomTom. Plus you can load the music on it and connect it to the car's USB. Anyone?

I use my Nexus 7 (no 3g) with Sygic (app costs around R400). Unfortunately, waze (and Sygic's real time traffic) won't work for me with no 3g.

Waze saves my ass a few times a month on the damn M/N1. But if I can't get hold of a cheap 7" tablet to do this with I'll wait for that Nexus and carry it (or maybe keep the iPad for this purpose) around with me in the car.

Why not keep your eyes open for a 2nd hand Galaxy Note - they should be getting pretty cheap with the new phones being released. The 5" screen is pretty good for GPS stuffies.

(really going ot now, prolly get an infraction according to the new rules )

I have a 8" Prestigio for over a year now. Excellent reader, using kindle I've finished quite a few books. My 7 year old daughter is also using it as her portable gaming system.

These guys import and handle the warranty for you. They seem okay.

Also check bidorbuy for blackberry playbooks the wifi only version goes around R2100.
But in the end I suggest going with kalahari or takealot for the cheap tablets. You never know when C3 (cheap Chinese crap) breaks.

You can get the Alcatel One touch from Esquire for R799 ex vat. It has better specs than the Prestigio.

Thanks for the input guys, but I'm sold on the Prestigio.

If I take in delivery costs of the Alcatel etc it comes to the same in any case with a slight performance gain and no OTG support.

I'd love to get something better, there's always something better for slightly more or less, but if it's not this it's that. Some places nail you up to R150 for delivery.

I just don't have the cash right now, as it stands this purchase is breaking my wallet and I know I am going to have to cut my budget short on a few things again this month. Living alone in a large home isn't for everyone, but that's my life ;p.

For the guys that are afraid that you are going OT, you aren't. Thanks for the helpful comments. It helps a lot.

I asked the store if they OTG cables, but they don't, so I'll check at Matrix or some place over here. Shot.

Try looking at the proline advertised on takealot it's higher specced then all the mentioned tablets, it actually seems to be specced the same as the Novo Crystal I got my wife and it is fast.

It says it includes an OTG cable and support? But the Proline site doesn't mention it?

It's R102 more expensive than the one I'm aiming for, so I'm rather buying the Proline, seriously. It's got 8GB storage, dual core, slipcase, two cameras and the list goes on.

I bought and paid for the Proline this morning and see it's listed as no stock available right now, so I sent them an email to enquire about it.

I will be sorely peeved if they tell me I will be credited or can't get it.

Edit: TakeAlot backtracked.

Some sob story that they had issues with their stock and only receiving stock by next week Wednesday, blah blah.

Flipping pathetic. I pay, they don't deliver. So now I wait until I receive it.

I too bought the Proline earlier today. Said it was in stock while the purchase was being processed, but that has subsequently changed, as you've found out. I did some back-and-forthing trying to decide whether to buy it from them or Loot, and picked Takealot. Hope I won't be sorry.

They asked if they should keep the order open or not. Banking charges etc., time spent, effort and whatnot, I could just as well wait and let them deliver it.

I bought it as a birthday gift, so prompt delivery is crucial.
Just mailed them now as well. If they can offer me a speedy refund I may pursue that course of action.

Best to confirm stock PRIOR to making payment then, even if it's Loot.

You can't trust these bloody online stores. You would think a place like TakeAlot would have their bases covered yet they screw up like this. This is also not the first time. Happened when they were Take 2 as well. This is my first dealings with them under the new branding.

And don't get me started on their laid back, surfer dude, obnoxious relaxed attitudes either. Spelling errors in emails, nor punctuation, buggerall. It stinks and is unprofessional.

Received a courtesy call from JP at TakeAlot.

He was very polite and explained the situation. They had 10 units this morning and when they booked out the first, it had scratch marks on the screen, they checked the rest, which had the same defect, which they returned to the supplier.

I told him how peeved I was and that I posted it on mybb. He said he is expecting stock early next week and will try his best to get my Tablet to me as soon as possible.

I have been registered with Take 2 since 2004 and bought a bit, not a lot, but enough, but things like this enrage me.

They are selling this Tab well below RRP, I know.

He confirmed that the Tab includes an OTG cable, for those that are wondering.

So here's to me with a bit of patience and a slight bit of faith restored. I told him also that in future I will check stock first before making payment and he said they will be implementing something similar for certain items in checkout soon.

I assumed(incorrectly) that their systems would be linked, thus the stock level reflected online would get updated in realtime. Instead it seems there's a disenfranchised employee running around looking for stock in a stationary cupboard and behind the office pot plants. :wtf:

I mailed [email protected]. Asked them to confirm that they have stock, as stated at time of purchase.
