7 days to go...

is it easy to update suse from a previous version via repos?

Can opensuse 11.2 work straight out to box without setting anything up like sound drivers? or mp3 codecs?

If its better than ubuntu 9.10 then il get it!

Was not always, however they added a dist-upgrade like option to opensuse starting with version 10.4 and 11.1 I think.

usage is like: zypper dist-upgrade or zypper dup for short (of coarse as root or sudo zypper dup as normal user)
When you do do this, be prepared to have the cap and do all the packages at the same time, I have screwed up my system by doing it half way. It is not as smart as CentOS yet to 1st download all packages then do the install. It downloads package, then install it, which kinda sucks in my opinion.

On a clean install...yes sometimes even better than ubuntu. I don't know about the MP3 codecs, I usually install Audacious for mp3s and that had mp3 out of the box. Same with SMplayer for movies, nothing fancy to get stuff to work.

Drivers definitely work out of the box though, they install the opensource NVidia drivers, you still have to install them afterwards but it is really really easy, as adding the nvidia repo is automated once you use the opensuse firefox. Same with flash, ive never had such an easy install on linux, its basically the same way you do it in windows.

Heh, at this rate, I will have no hard disk space with all the VMs I want to install! :D
