Old man is looking for a 7 seater. Needs to be able to seat 7 adults.

Grand Livina is out (he says its ugly).
Budget around 200k... used or new...

Toyotas are also out: Innova is ugly, and that 2.7 is crazy on petrol (family friend has a hilux with that engine). Avanza is used as a taxi, theft risk.

Went to check out the new Nissan NV200 7 seater, didn't have stock... around 240k new for that

2010~ Qashqai + 2, touran and Grand scenic on the list.

Anything else that I missed?

Mercedes Viano - Edit: sorry missed the budget. Perhaps a 2nd Hand Vito?

VW Sharan

Parents have the 2004 TDI, has 140k km on the clock and relatively fuel efficient. They paid like 300k for it iirc, as a demo a few years ago.

Was gonna say Merc GL but that was before I noticed the budget :D

Saw one of these the other day and they are huge.

Look at a used Toyota Fortuner or Ford Everest I think you can get a Ford Everest for around R265000 new(some Ford Dealers have them on special)
An SUV will be an ideal choice for your old man

Another thing that you forgot is the "parking Space". Some of them, like the "Chrysler voyager" are a little long...

Nobody have mentioned the Mazda 5. is a 2.0 engine. If your old man don't mind getting squeezed, the OPEL ZAFIRA.

Also there is a Toyota 'Condor' that is a 7 seater, but is an old model. If you can pay, get a WV diesel. I heard the Sharan is not bad. Also the Touran.

Also the KIA, (Carnival & Sedona) but I think they are overpriced.

Almost forgot the Peugeot 807... not sure about this one, but is a 'Peugeot' (they are usually good... I cannot remember the last time that I heard a bad comment about a Peugeot, probably from my dad when the 404 died).

How regularly will seven seats be necessary. My Captiva hold seven but in that configuration there's very little boot space left.

Brother has VW Touran, nice vehicle and very fuel efficient the Tdi, no spare wheel in the 7 seater.

I've got a Touran also, but the back 2 seats would be for kids only or for short journeys for adults. Just not enough leg room I'm afraid. I had a Sharan also before the Touran, now that has 7 seats for 7 adults with every seat as comfortable as the other. I don't think they sell them in SA anymore but there'll still be a few knocking about second hand I reckon.

Why not just use two cars on the odd occasion where seven seats are truly needed? You're just going to end up paying a premium, purchase price and continuous in petrol, for something that I doubt will be used daily..

Friend of mine just got an Ford Everest, they are having huge specials on them now, possibly because a new one looming.
