Hi,
I want to get a tablet only to read PDF textbooks from my university, it won't be used for anything else, I feel it would be an easier read than my laptop or PC as I'm able to view it in portrait. Do you guys think a 7" tablet would do this or would I need a 10.1"? Also should I be able to read PDF textbooks without zooming, a page at a time with any of these tabs?

Thanks guys

I haven't used mine much for reading yet, and I am planning to get some ebooks to read, but I am very happy with my 7" tablet. Extremely portable and doesn't feel bulky when handling it.

When you have a chance please try have a look at a pdf, the ebooks seem to be easier with adjustable fonts but I'm worried about reading pdfs without zooming, I want the closest to a book like experience without printing it. Open source text books from my uni before I get scolded.

Will do tomorrow at work. Will take a look at some of my policy wording and report back here :p :D

Took some pics for you from my 10.1inch. If you really don't want to zoom I would refer you to get a 10.1.
I havn't used a 7" yet but can only assume that you'll have to zoom to read sometimes. I have to zoom to select text from a textbook to highlight.

Having used both 7" & 10" tablets, I can assure you that neither is suitable for reading text except for short messages & the like. Best bet for pdf documents would be an e-ink display like the Kindle Touch - much easier on the eyes imho...

I love my 7" tablet and use it often, but if I could trade it in for a 10.1" I would do so in an instant.

I disagree with oldhat on the readability. I have read a lot of books and whatnot on my 7" tablet and enjoyed it. Turn the brightness down a bit and your eyes should last.

for reading pdf's I find a 10 inch better. but for portability I would like something smaller, so contemplating a 7 inch for that purpose..

when are we getting foldout screens? :D

I'm not sure what it is but a laptop screen KILLS my eyes, my tablet(iPad) doesn't at all! Maybe it's because it's smaller? Not really sure!

thats why i got the 8.9 inch galaxy tab.
the perfect inbetweener!!

the better quality screen might have something to do with it? not sure, but reading on an Ipad is easier than on my Motorola xoom. Not that the Xoom is bad, the Ipad is just better ;)

If PDF reading is your only requirement have a look at the cheapest Ipad you can find ... the 4:3 ratio simply works better for reading pdf's

Also PDF on Kindle is kinda sucky ... formatting somehow is always wrong

The problem with the kindle is multicolumn documents which need a lot of zooming and orientation changes to read comfy.

Thanks, that seems like it could provide a reasonable reading experience without zooming.

I use the 9.4" Sony Tablet S for reading on every day. It gives some extra real estate compared to a 7" tablet. Eye strain isn't a problem for me, I can read all day so long it's a good quality IPS panel or so.

Do you ever read pdfs?

Agree about quality panel being more important. I've got the 7" Samsung and I also find it great for my PDFs.

I read PDF's on my 10.1 and it's fine, also CBRs
