702p .mkv

Is it just me or is a 1.33 GHz G4 (1GB DDR) not fast enough to play a 720p .mkv file? I tried Quicktime, VLC and MPlayer - all stuggle.

A little disappointed. But then, playing this, my 1.8GHz Turion64 actually gets out of it's 800MHz comfort zone for a change, so I'm probably expecting too much. But still, I thought the PPCs were supposed to be really good at this kind of stuff... :(
 
720p does take a fair bit of processor power iirc (as does h264 for that matter) and that G4 isnt getting any younger - does that model have the dedicated graphics card?
 
It's the Mini, but yeah, it's got integrated Radeon 9200 with either 32 or 64MB dedicated memory. But I think this is more an issue with the decoding speed.

I suppose comparing it with the Turion64 is a bit unfair, the Turion64 is a beast of a different kind. It has 1MB cache and decodes 1080p without too much fuss, and mostly without even hitting 1.8GHz...

Just one more reason to buy that MBP :D
 
lol - yeah - you wont be disappointed with a MBP - I know I've had zero regrets with mine. :D
 
I'm going over to the US in early December - thinking of getting one there (the entry level one is $600 cheaper than here!). How do you usually get around customs etc? Walking through customs with that black box is going to be a little obvious...

Post yourself the box if you really want it (along with all the accessories/papers etc).

Granted the packaging is a work of art but I usually just bin the box ;)
 
i think minimum is a 1.5 gig processor

That is an option of course. But I'm thinking of when I want to sell it somewhere down the line (you know, when the new Quad core MBP comes out :D ). I've noticed on eBay the notebooks that come with their original packaging fetch higher prices.

Post seems like a fair idea, as long as they don't ask too many questions...
