Soz if i seem lazy, i just have no international access at the moment ( ) and wanted to know which is a better buy:

6600GT 256MB DDR3
or
7600GS 256MB DDR2

both XFX and similarily priced

I got a 7600GT and it kills the 6600GT, not sure about the 7600GS but I imagine the later is always better. 7600 would probably have some feature upgrades and better support for Direct X 9, but not sure about the last one.

GeForce 6600GT Stats:

256mb 128bit DDR3 , 8 pixel shader engine , core/memory : 500/1000mhz

GeForce 7600GS Stats:

256mb 128bit DDR2 , 12 pixel shader engine , core/memory : 400/540mhz

Mmmmm, seems like they would be equal performing in the end. The 7600 may be able to overclock more (the core) since it is a cool running chip.

DDR3 will make a HUGE difference ... I wouldn't bother looking at non DDR3 memory on any card.

Thanks guys! Im leaning towards the 7600gs , but it all depends on stock (seems like everything is out of stock these days). If i can find the 7600GS at a similar price to the 6600GT, ill probably take it. Any further comments as to whether this will be a good/bad idea will be appreciated

EDIT: hmm, I was just thinking the same thing PeekNPoke just posted... lol, im confused

Wow, its smacks that 6600 silly.

Definitely go for the 7600.

Edit: Oh yeah, and seems all GS's are passively cooled, thus no noisy little fan.
