For years now I've had active sim's from all the available networks. In the past motivation was to make sure wasn't caught out with no cell phone coverage. As networks matured this changed to being able to take full advantage of every new offer , special or promo. getting a twin sim phone has made this game a of " musical sims" even better.Cell c's 99c special was first time began to feel real shake up in the amount of voice minutes I managed on airtime bought. Missed the Mtn big move as my Mtn sim was doing Data duty at the time.Next up was Vodacom's 79c. felt some angst about having to give up the additional goodies to take up the 79c offer but did it anyway. I haven't yet tried to quantify exactly what net effect has been in rands & cents but I can assure you the "WOW" factor has left me gob smacked!! WOW !!!I can't remember the last time that even as little as R10 of airtime has gone so Far. Next up will be cell c's 66c which I believe is going to be the ultimate game changer.
Euphoria and great saving apart ,this offer has created an interesting side effect.Like most people, IM has been an important component of trying to keep my costs down whilst still maintaining semi decent level of communications & interestingly I'm finding myself foregoing the use of IM in favour of a quick voice call. Thumbing stabbing my phone less & talking more feel's awkwardly odd yet strangely familiar. Much like the "Born Free's" were a fascinating topic in our recent election I'm wondering what the "Voice Free's" are going to make of all this? maybe voice still has a little fight left in it after all?
Not sure how much further down the dark alley of economic suicide the networks are still going to be able to push this little price war of their's before their bankers start throwing themselves out of Tall buildings but I'm already daydreaming of silly things like 40c/min and will be watching closely to see how quickly you could burn through a huge cash pile accumulated over 20 years. This is free enterprise & pure capitalism in its most utopian form & we,the consumer, have best ring side seat.
