The actor Erik Holm, who was perhaps best known for his role in the soapie 7de Laan asked his friend to video record everything when he broke his neck last Friday.

"Record it for posterity," Holm told Peter Butler as he lay paralysed next to the man-made lake at Secunda's waterfront.

It's a tragic event but diving head first into murky water seemed like a bright idea how?

It is tragic! Maybe he got carried away in the moment. Either way I hope he makes a full recovery!

I think there had to be, or maybe the water just too shallow, I've heard of tons of accidents like this, I'll never jump or dive into water ;)

Yeah, that is dangerous. But even an area that you know can be dangerous. Someone I knew dove into her pool (lived there for 20 years, could probably do it blindfolded) - went down just a little to far, broke her nose against the floor and drowned.

Wow, that's sad. I dive into pools, yes, but I see what you mean. I have jumped into a river when I was younger, but I saw a documentary a couple of years ago, which changed my mind. You can die instantly if there's a rock or log in the water.

Sad really ;)

How do you drown by breaking your nose ... was she knocked unconscious?

I guess disorientation/shock/surprise? She was underwater after all. Could have been unconscious, I dunno - I wasn't there.

k there is an actor, we know his real name, but what role did he play? mom watched it but I don't know the series that well to know who it is, but still curious.

Yes I suppose thats also true ... thats why when I dive ... I always hold my hands together in front of me like I was tought to do to prevent accidents like these. But something can always go wrong ... and hence I just cannonball these days ;)
