8 GB ram in a Laptop

Dell just released a bios update(A13) for its laptops with the Santa Rosa chipset. With support for new cpus and addressing 8gb ram..

ohhhh this is gonna be fun. still need to get my version of vista x64
 
Consultant. so notebook is desktop replacements.

VMware (tesing and running other servers),
Database server (60 gb database),
Application Server (huge in memory cache),
programing IDE

all running on laptop..

Same can be done with 4gb :confused:
 
Granted, it's cos I work with very big files. But yeah, point is, your machine can use a boatload of ram
 
I agree, depends on what you are doing. I'm running EM simulations and use 8GB RAM without even trying.
 
Sheesh and i thought i had a lot of spare ram with my laptop's 2gb. Although 8 would let you multitask with some real memory hogging applications .
