802.11b/g/N, 300Mbps Wireless Access Point

Hi guys,

I have to buy a 802.11b/g/N, 300Mbps Wireless access point for use at the office. The original purchase was the D-Link DAP-1522AP Xtreme N Duo, Wireless Bridge/Access Point, but the supplier could not provide the item when they went to buy it.

Now I have to source a replacement with the refund money. So basically I have R750 to get the same item (fat chance - no stock and price hiked) or something similar.

What is the best Wi-Fi AP for max R750?

i bought a d-link access point, wireless n, not sure model but was absolute rubbish so returned it to the shop.
Bought a trend net wireless access point this week. So far so good, definitely better then the d-link by a long shot.
Think i paid R800 from Incredible Connection.
 
Stuff the gigabit lan. The TP-Link WR841ND 300Mbps Wireless N is the same, only the LAN port is 10/100, no 1000.

+1 Definitely. Installed two of these at a client's site. They work wonderfully.

If looking at TP-Link DON'T get the 1043ND. I have the 1043ND and the wireless is shoddy at the best of times.

Other alternatives could be ASUS:

The above are roughly within your price bracket. Frontosa stocks them.

There's also this one:

Slightly cheaper, still 300Mbps.
 
If you don't need the "a" network (just 2.4 GHz) then try the DSL2750U. I have had mine for a while and it's been very stable. And it's a lot cheaper than the one you had ordered!

I got mine to replace the ASUS DSL-N11 - which for no reason couldn't work longer than a week without a reboot!!! The network (LAN) would just lock up!
 
Yeah I am also disappointed with the TP-Link 1043ND so considering alternatives.

I found that I had to run a very specific build of DD-WRT on my Buffalo router to get optimal performance and no WiFi disconnects...
 
I am still running the stock TP-Link firmware, haven't tried DD-WRT on it yet, but maybe now's the time I should....
 
Ordered the TP-Link WR841ND, they shipping the WR842D. Upgraded at no extra cost due to stock issue.

Why did you order a router if you only needed an AP? The 300Mbps AP is the WA901ND, and @ R525 they're cheaper and support PoE.

Running DD-WRT SVN Revision 18777.

My issues are both signal-related and that the WiFi has zero throughput most of the time. I mostly use it as a switch and print server atm.
 
stroebs, perhaps search for a DD-WRT build that has specific Atheros chipset support for that WR1043ND.
I think that was the primary issue with the DD-WRT builds that I tried for my Buffalo router, was that the firmware didn't really support the Atheros chipset and then people added hacks to reboot the WiFi after a while.

Thanks, will do. I'm fairly sure there was a thread about it on the DD-WRT forum somewhere.

I might also go back to an OpenWRT custom build for the 1043ND as it had some very attractive additions to it. Fan-made of course. Quite a big thing for me was the ability to load Asterisk PBX onto OpenWRT/DD-WRT.
