For conventional ADSL, downstream rates start at 128 kbit/s (though a minimum offering of 512 kbit/s is more common) and typically reach 8 Mbit/s within 1.5 km (5000 ft) of the DSLAM equipped central office or remote terminal. Upstream rates start at 64 kbit/s and typically reach 128 kbit/s or 256 kbit/s but can go as high as 1024 kbit/s. The name ADSL Lite is sometimes used for the slower versions.
for me personally, i'm quite happy with 4mbit.
I'm struggling to get sources that will allow full 4mbit speeds.
Currently i only get full thruput with about 4-5 torrents running at once with lots of seeders.
I do think telkom and other ISP's should try and do something about our local cap maybe giving 50gigs free or somethin'. or maybe increase the average cap of 3gigs to at least 10gigs also for R250 +- (that would be nice, but ye. i also know there aint no chance in hell that telkom would be in a "giving" mood) :>
Many of the lines are but are the bits at either end?My inside man in Telkom told me the lines are capable of up to 16mbit. No jokes. So just wait...you should see 8mbit soon.![]()
