Hi all

Had two very contrasting experiences today.

Cell C have really up'ed their game. Visited a store to take out a new contract. Salesperson was clued up, friendly, helpful and I got sorted out in no time at all. Coffee was even thrown into the deal.

Telkom Mobile/8ta dropped the ball badly. Bought a SIM at CNA... tried to RICA for 20 minutes (four seperate attempts) without success. System error - had all the necessary documentation with me. Then again at Edgars... two attempts, without any luck. Spent fifteeen minutes on a call to their customer service centre. Spoke to an operator who couldn't even take down my address. Still waiting.

But, hey, should I really have expected Telkom to deliver a quality service. Probably not.

Good luck to Telkom - clearly customer acquisition isn't a priority for 8ta right now.

I went to the Telkom shop to RICA my sim card What a joke

"Sir we cannot RICA your 8ta sim"

"Excuse me BUT im in a TELKOM shop"

"You have to go to CNA"

"Sheeesh well what did expect this is Telkom we talking about"

Walks out of telkom shop goes over to CNA within 2 minutes I was RICA'd

My thanks to all you early adopters of anything new on the market. Your sharing of your frustrations are helping people like me who wait for the dust to settle to experience a much mature process, or to avoid certain services completely.

Agreed... and then wait for the postpaid offerings!

Guys it wasnt such a big hassle I think it was an ok way to spend the 99c on the sim card.....LOL

I agree with jb007za. CellC is certainly trying to improve their Customer service at the stores. Over the weekend, I went to the CellC store in Dbn, Gateway........bought the promotional USB data package, rica'd the data SIM plus even rica'd my postpaid SIM.......all this in under 15mins. They even had time to demo the product and show me the coverage area and their terms and conditions.

I expected to allocate at least an hour of my time to spend at the store to sort all this out.....however with the 45mins that i saved, my wife decided to take me along with her to go shoe shopping. Ended up costing me R600 :-(

Same here lost my phone over the weekend due to too much partying. Went to the Cell C shop guy was friendly, had a good chat and he didn't even charge me for the sim swap.

Ok so you are blaming 8.ta Telkom cause CNA and Edgars people are stupid? Its like blaming Samsung if Game staff messes something up in the sale? How can it be compared.

I got my sim from Edgars in Richards Bay. I was less than 2min. Got a free simcard rica'ed and bought R100 airtime in less than 2 min. Its was a painless setup and so fast and very friendly and clued up.

I was surprised but if I had a bad experience I think its unfair to blame 8.ta if its out of their hands. So far 8.ta is serving me good. No internet downtime so far. All 100% in order.

On the flip side of the coin I'm waiting for CellC to come back to me - they have put me on the wrong package.

Also, there is other things I need to sort out with them... still waiting.

Telkom, on the other hand (mind you, it was before 8ta) was quick and responsive when I wanted to buy a SIM - RICA'd and topped it up all within 30 minutes of purchase at the telkom shop without any issues or troubles.

Still waiting for CellC. Gonna give 'em gas tomorrow.
