8ta crawling on EDGE.

When I first log on my dash shows WCDMA 8.ta.It then hovers between this, HSPA and HSUPA before finally settling on EDGE.At this point I'm sliding along like a snail on tranquilizers.
Im currently on the 3gig/R149 deal and Ive set my sim to non-roaming.This has to work before I take out the 20 gig contract.
What gives.Any ideas?

Im gobsmacked because it worked beautufully on pre-paid.

Pre-paid uses MTN , not 8ta backbone.

And of course it will be snail speed, it's EDGE.. lol.

Caroline Macharia, portfolio manager for data, explained that the promotion operates on a totally different prepaid rate plan, which means that a SIM provisioned for the special won’t be able to make use of 8ta’s roaming agreement with MTN.

Huawei 1820.JHB cbd.Its definitely the network because its very erratic and inconsistent.Like I said the first 10 minutes after I connect, its decent but not great, and then just drops to nothing.

My bad. I guess it could be some other problem, very strange though. I think you are better off going back to the store. Good luck

I cant understand why the pings are so good even though I'm getting pathetic download speeds.

If it's a E1820 it only has HSDPA on 2100 MHz so I'm guessing you are roaming onto MTN and you'll only get EDGE.

Try to test with a modem that has HSPA on 900/2100MHz.

did you guys manage to sort out this problem.
i just switched to 8ta using E230 modem. I seems to only be able to get EDGE? I am in Stellenbosch where I expect to be able to get 3G.
