I have previously had no problem routing mail using 8ta as a backup when ADSL line is down.

Today I am unable to get connectivity on port 25 using a 3g usb stick on a Netgear MBR624Gu router.
I have firewall routing rules in place to forward port 25 to my internal firewall and exchange server.

Are all ports still open on 8ta or do I have to request a change from 8ta's helpdesk.
I am still on the phone after 25 minutes to 183, spoke to 3 different agents, no-one has a clue what I am asking for.

Any ideas?

Many ISP's are blocking this port for SMTP due to the sheer amount of SPAM that gets passed over it by botnets and such.

Have a go at using the less obvious 587 instead.

Got off the phone after 40 minutes. Spoke to a 4th person, who tells me that there is no port blocking - this is how I understand it too.

Mail is finally working after rebooting my router and getting a new IP.
Previous IP was 41.150.56.196 - perhaps there is a problem with that IP or subnet, as now the ports are open on 41.150.113.x IP.

Hi Saul as it is now working I will leave it be, thanks for the advice.

Edit: According to RFC 821, port 25 is used for SMTP traffic.
This is what I am using for incoming mail.
If I change to port 587 how will incoming mail get to my exchange server?
The advice to use 587 is fine if you are getting mail from a relay server that supports it.
In my case i am receiving mail directly using dynamic dns for my mail records.

At this point fortunately it is working, just wanted to point this out for anyone reading the thread later.
