Hello everyone,

I have been e-mailing 8ta since the 24th of August asking for the locations of the 8ta towers in my region. I am being ignored like a stop sign...

Is there any other way of obtaining this information, or some other 8ta contact I can e-mail?

Thanks!

I have been e-mailing [email protected], but with no luck. I need to know where the towers are, since I want to install an external antenna, and need to know in which direction to point it. I do stay in a covered area.

I got a free sim from Telkom Direct here in PE, and got good speeds. From MTN!

There are no 8ta towers in PE. All the access is via roaming. And if you read the small print on the special offers, the special offers don't count if you are roaming. I bought the cell c offer before investigating further, so I can't confirm.

I am on a 24 month 10Gb contract, which explicitly do not use the MTN towers, but only the 8ta towers. If only 8ta would give me the simple info of where their towers are, I will be able to quickly mount and test the antenna...

good luck, if you read through the threads you'll pick up that none of the cell providers give out this info, I gave up eventually. Now that I've got an Android phone though I just use some of the apps available that show where cell towers are.

Cell C eventually responded to a similar query by stating in which direction the towers are, which at least helped a bit...

If you have an Android phone there's an app that will show you where they are. Sorry don't know the name (iPhone myself) but my colleagues have shown it to me.

Just to add... when you roam on MTN you will not get 3G speeds (it is a 2G only roaming agreement).

With that in mind, how did NSB get these results in PE? http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...test-Results?p=6448856&viewfull=1#post6448856

There are plenty of 8ta towers in PE and surrounds.

Whereabouts are you in BFN?

I used the 8ta sim in Walmer, Richmond Hill, Govin Mbeki rd (cbd), Parsons Hill & Westering - all the locations got only roaming on MTN.

No, when I roamed on MTN, I got HSDPA - not 2G.

And my speeds were as good as MTN speeds - because it was MTN - so the speedtest results don't surprise me.

That coverage map seems to be a combination of the 'pure' 8ta coverage and the roaming agreement with MTN.

I live about 3km from a large exchange in Walmer, PE - and I can only get a roaming signal.

As per MickeyD, the roaming agreement for 8ta on MTN is similar to the CellC agreement on Vodacom, they do not provide 3G on roaming.

Also the coverage map that I highlighted is for the 8ta network only, not a combination.

So I don't know what signal you're picking up but it's not MTN roaming and fact remains that there are 8ta towers in PE contrary to your initial post

I'm relating my experience with 8ta, based on a sim I received and tested (a week ago). They may state that it's only 2g, but that's not what I get. And it's definitely roaming - there is a unique roaming symbol - a triangle - that is displayed.

As for the 8ta towers, I guess that goes back to the original post - where are they?

EDIT: I didn't purchase the sim - it was free :)
