8Tb cloud server

I did setup two SSIDs one for may LAN and second one as Guest WiFi.

The Guest network is isolated from my LAN, then on the LAN I only allow my devices with MAC addresses, that way I know who connects to my LAN. But if you are on the LAN, you can use DLNA to view content, and if you have password you can read and write to shares on NAS, otherwise you can only read.

Thanks gfmalan.

When I get to that point I'll have some more question

Hi, I use Plex as well, but I installed other player on my phone (MX Player), and use ES File Explorer.

The WD doesnt have strong enough CPU to transcode video, so better todo it on the device.

@gfmalan

I managed to get mycloud set up yesterday.

But having codec audio issues when playing on my LG G3 phone?

I see they use plex to organize media do you use it or do you have something better?

What @gfmalan said. IIRC Plex puts the load on the nas, which transcodes the videos and then serves the final stream.

Did you try use something like the VLC app on your phone? That should be able to play almost anything. It has an option to access network shares.

I do have vlc.

I'll try it out

Thanks

Are you using WiFi, and what is the model of the router?
Yes wifi

The Wireless is b/g/n, so 54 or 300Mbps, the ethernet is 4x 10/100.

If you need better throughput to copy data/stream video, then yes, try to get something with 10/100/100 network and ac wireless.

If you can, get yourself something like Amplifi AP that support mesh WiFi and can combine 2.4 and 5 to give you best speed possible.

https://www.amplifi.com

I use the Apple Airport extreme, just depending your brand pref. The Apple AP also support Guest access to isolate guests from LAN.

I have the Amplifi as well, tested it once and packed away, but think is does similar.

Still busy copying media over to the mycloud server. What can I use to get the mycloud server onto my 2 LCD TV's that don't have WiFi?

I would say any media player of your choice!

I have a “smart” LG TV, and Apple TV, both work great, played with the MyGica 495 pro, did everything I wanted, but not loving Android.

The MyCloud has a media server (think Twonky), so any player that support DLNA will work.

What's is this chrome cast like.?

Mi box?

I would investigate Mi box, decide if Dstv Now and or Showmax is important to you, I saw some of these boxes isn’t supported, but everything else work. Chrome cast incl.

And here Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Thanks for the info gfmalan

Not that interested in any dstv stuff.

Just want to stream to both TV's.

The MI box looks good.

Does it track what you've watched or are watching?

A good baby home server for media etc is the HP Microserver (anything Gen8 onwards will transcode most without issue) - Install plex and whatever else you need and use Roku's or whatever other devices on your tvs to stream.

Is that 8tb raid 1 or just 8tb?

I will never trust a single drive in my life. Raid or nothing

Those using Mycloud devices, have you guys used the USB3 port to expand storage yet?

I see you can also attach a powered usb hub and up to 7 devices.
