I was favoring the 9300, because I read that OS6 is not available for 9700, but I see it IS available now.

Reasons to get 9300:
* Cheaper
* 2MP or 3MP makes little difference to me, a cameraphone is a cameraphone.

Reasons to get the 9700
* Battery Life: I plan to use online 2G/3G stuff a lot
* Speakerphone better? (I read that somewhere)
* Higher Resolution (480x360 vs 320x240) (worthwhile?)

Any thoughts?

9700 comes out the 'box with OS5, the first official variants of OS6 have already surfaced. The higher resolution screen doesn't make a functional difference obviously, but it does look much nicer.

As for battery life - my wife's lasts 4 to 6 days. She's not the heaviest of users, but it does include a fair amount of Solitaire and FB.

Interesting. It seems like the only strong reason for me to get the 9700 is battery life.
However I can buy a spare battery for a lot less.

Dude I do not know how you can even contemplate the 9300 with that resolution, it is a massive factor. Battery is also great.

Brawler: is it a big diff with browsing? Its never gonna be a netbook.
If ur reading stuff on the 9700 you'll probably zoom in anyway... so is there really any point in the high res? (not interested in pics)

I kinda agree with Brawler here - the screen alone sold me

I got a 9300 but I'm a heavy user, my battery can last me 1.5 days but I charge almost every night. Internet is a better experience if you select Column View, much better than zooming and shifting around the screen.

On a small screen the issue of clarity is even more pronounced. You'll forever hate your Curve once you've seen [-]a decent Android[/-] a Bold.

LOL

Android folk leave us alone ;)

You have your own subsection ...

Okay, I'll see if I can pay in for the 9700. I want to go with CellC's 9300 package. I'll see if I can pay in a cash difference.
CellC's 9300 is R200/m.
Their 9700 is R486/m, and the only diff you get is the 9700 and 120 mins extra, which are only worth R180.
And locking yourself into using 220 mins/month. (hard to predict)
For 486/m I could get 2 phones!
Not worth it.

MTN has a decent 9700 option for R250/m. But their out of bundle call charges are sky high!

I rate the screen resolution does make a difference

I suppose I should go try them out before I decide.

It is a big difference with everything. I'd go so far as to say that staring at the pixels the size of rice grains on the 9300 would hurt my eyes :)

I have a 9300 and find the screen resolution 'poor' compared to the 9700.Rather get the 9700 or 9780 when it's out.
My 2c.

As I understand it the 9300 is of the same "build quality" as the 8520? But with GPS?

Well then regardless of the screen, the 9700 is miles ahead in terms of build quality and actually quite decent. The 8520 is an absolute joke and feels like a badly made cheap toy. Horrible to type on with man fingers, really flimsy, and the whole keypad moves when you press one button. I would stay far away based on my experience with the 8520.

But Lope, I thought you were going for an iPhone? The iPhone is still streets ahead of the Bb 9700 in my opinion, especially if you're a "tech guy" like yourself (as I understand from your posts). Aren't the 9700 and iPhone 3GS around the same price?

"Ever wondered why people rave about their Blackberrys all the time? Because they upgraded from Nokia!"

*runs*

PostmanPot: Nice one :D
I'm getting an iPhone as well... in a few months :D

Geez, you guys are really putting me off the 9300. Must try make a plan!

Phew! :)

Why two phones? Are they both for yourself? The 9300 will be fine if you're using it very little I guess...

I'm gonna look into coding apps for phones.
I just called a CellC store now. If I want to get the 9700 on a 9300 contract, I must pay in R3,189 in cash. shoooooo
A lot of dollar for a bit of extra pixels.
If I get the 9300 and hate it, I can sell it on gumtree for R1,800 and buy a 9700 on gumtree for R3,300 which will cost R1,500.
I see most people are selling the 9300 on gumtree for well over R2,000. They obviously haven't seen vodacom are selling it for R2,000.

Just get second-hand then. Even if it has a few scratches (which bring down the price), it should be fine?

Unless you secretly want to use it a lot... :D Just kidding.
