help pls. my phone froze while browsing so i took out the battery. put the battery back but it boots to around 99% and goes no further. did numerous battery pulls. still nothing. any ideas how i can sort this?

Depending on your SP, download the latest firmware from their site. Install the firmware on your PC and use desktop manager to install the firmware on your handset.

thanks for the help. The desktop manager does not pick up the device cos its did not complete booting!

Try remove battery from handset then connect handset the PC. See if the DM sees the handset.

tried that, DM did not pick up the phone. Busy dloading the software from MTN now. Will try to force the DM to pick up the handset somehow, there is some way to do it, read something on google.

i dont think so, after 15 minutes of the boot screen ite says ' App error 606'. so its software.

Google says its some app that causes problems, sometimes its the Facebook app after it updates. Will get the MTN software ( half dloaded - 384k line FTL), will try to force DManager to recognise the phone.

I HATE this, & I especially dont want to dent it back to MTN to sort out cos that will take like 6 weeks

Try this if the desktop manager does not pick up the phone:

Browse to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader" then right click on loader.exe and create a shortcut to the desktop. Edit the shortcut properties on the desktop and in the target field add the text "/nojvm" to the end ie so it should look like this: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe" /nojvm

Then pulll the battery out of the phone, open the shortcut on the desktop. Click on next once, you should see a screen that has a connection drop down box which should be empty because the phone is plugged out. Then as soon as you put the battery back into the phone, plug in the usb cable, after a few seconds it should show something new in the connection drop down box, at that moment click on next and then you should be able to do the software

EDIT: pretty much the same as described in the link above. remember to replace 'program files' with 'program files (x86)' if you have a 64-bit OS

Ok, It worked, thanks guys :)

stevovo, I didnt do a shortcut to the desktop, just ran the file from its directory.

FOr some reason, when it switched on again, the Radio was off. Tried to dial a number & it asked if I wanted to switch the Radio on. No problem.

Thanks again, this forum is sooo worth it :)
