Anyone have any knowledge on them? This particular one is going for R49900. 156000km FSH Body very good condition.

Engine was reconditioned @ 145000km a few months ago by Land Rover so still under warranty until August this year.

Will be a fun weekend car.

No. No. No.

They have gearbox problems, heating problems, many many problems.... I was going to get an 00 model in 2004, at that stage they were about R170,000

My dad told me not to, but I didn't listen, I was on the way to sign the papers and take delivery, and my dad actually got a friend reasonably high in land rover to phone me and tell me not to do it, he listed all sorts of issues, and said if I knew what was good for me, I'd leave it.... which is what I did, got a Hilux instead.

Apparently the new ones are better.... but the 99 till 03 (I think) had major issues.

Freelander is the devil, I know a girl who drove one, lets just say her dad was not a happy camper with the reliability and costs incured by that vehicle. It has had so many factory/engineering issues that is overvalued at any price almost. Also the car guys on 702 (the friday night show they have) will say exactly the same thing.

Yip, Freelanders are the one's that wrecked land rovers image. Probibly about 90% of them had defects.
Rather look at the Discovery.

The Discovery of that period had similar issues.

As far as I know the new models are ok again.... think from 2005/6

Definitely avoid the older Freelander... then new models seem good though.
