Does it detect the usb once plugged in?
What error message if any are you getting?
Check to see if the version you are using of the software if any patches or updates have been released as the ones released when packaged are sometimes outdated.
Re-install Windows.
This is one thing that annoys me about Canon - why the hell can't they make their cameras show up as USB storage? Even my do-every-thing-their-own-way Sony Cybershot shows up as a USB drive when I plug it in. Under *any* operating system.
What software did you install, was it Activesync?
Use a card reader - at least on a mac you'll be able to have the card show up as a drive (though why you would want to . . ).Re-install Windows.

Really - that happens?I'm worried about the card reader wearing out the memory card though
I suppose with SD it's possible - it's a thing flat surfact that pics up a lot of friction when it's inserted and removed. A bit like mobile phone simcards that go bad, I guess.
Then I'd be as concerned with the mini usb port on the camera. SD cards are cheap compared to a new cameraYeah. Surely the friction causes a problem over time
