So here I am, in the maket for a car/used car.

First things first - I currently own a Smart ForFour 1.5 (Bought it from my mother who retired for medical reasons - she needed the money).
I love the car, except for one huge irritant - the gearbox.
I absolutely hate the automatic/paddle shift thing. Hate it.

Though, I love the rapid acceleration/pull-away. From standstill, it's a beauty. Nevermind the fuel consumption (I get about 610km on 45L).

So I am on the market, looking to trade-in. Now I would like a bigger vehicle.
Preferably one with AWD (I live on a very... rural road).
But I am unsure that someone my age should be seen in one.

I am 30. I like larger cars (lol, most will be larger than my current 4 door).
So I have been considering an X-Trail and the like.

So here is the big question..
Should someone my age really consider a car the size of an X-Trail?
Or, what kind of car could I consider?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
:)

dude wtf does your age have to do with what car you drive? who gives a **** what anyone else thinks :/

drive what you want, is practical and can afford.

Buy what you can afford and what appeals to YOU... not to anyone else..

Hell I'm not much older than you and I drive a Merc... I couldn't give a toss if other ppl think its an old mans car.. it drives like a dream....

Perhaps I should have asked "Would you think it weird to see an 18yr old-looking 30yr old, driving a big vehicle such as a X-trail?"
I always thought it a bit...funny. Perhaps I'm kind of automotive-conservative?

Anyway, glad you all think it's not weird.
May even consider a Freelander 2.

Regarding affordability..
It's either a normal-cost new, or a nice low mileage secondhand.

like d3x gets that looks :p ....

yeah listen to d3x he is always right .....

you work for your money not to drive and wish for comments

but if you that guy ...buy yourself a m3

You drove a Smart till youre 30?
Anythings an upgrade from that :)

Btw, an SUV is not a car judge on age, but rather a car judged on purpose.

Dude, I'm 38 and I just took ownership of my 2nd Forester. I got my first one when I was 32 (after upgrading from a merc).

Seriously who cares how old you are? If the car suites your lifestyle/requirements (I'm a fly-fisherman) then that's the only criteria that counts.

Here is my 2 cents.

I absolutely love the all new Nissan Juke simply becoz it is stylish and more affordable.

However, the all new Toyota FJ Cruiser beats the Juke in terms of pedigee. It is a toyota.

You have now called your taste into question with the Nissan Joke comment....
