So Allardyce, after saying he knows how to beat Chelsea, make a very very true statement about the state of the game today. Basically saying it's gone really soft due to the clampdown on tackling... While I do agree that strikers should be given protection - it has been pushed a bit too far...

ouch... man that dude's shin is like rubber there

I agree that it has become too soft and the lawmakers are letting the refs blow the "hard" men out of the game.

Maybe they are trying to protect the "valuable" superstars in terms of the clubs' financial investments, but it has taken the fun of a crunching (fair) tackle out of the game.

The hooligans (like the one in the clip inserted above) should be kicked out of the game for life as it is these individual incidents that drive the lawmakers to make sweeping rule changes concerning tackling.

fat sam is one of the worst managers ever to grace the epl, his teams generally lack any form of skill and just play a physical game

Ditto. If you deprive a player of his ability to play footy, then you should be ousted for the rest of your career as well. Don't make sweeping generalizations.

Well, say what you want, but that is an argument of "nice footy" vs "practical footy". He gets results with minimal investment, for which I think he should be commended.

Could you be more specific about what tackles are unjustly punished?

There are still far too many thugs who can kick people pretty well but are rubbish at football. Can't see why anyone would be sad to see them gone. Rather have skillful defenders who play the ball and don't get so far out of position they have to hack players down.

And Allardyce is only a shade better than McLeish.

The ref's these days blow for every small little thing. I think that the great tacklers of yore would have been villianized in today's game. Oh yeah - and if you're a skillfull player, you will be hacked at no matter what - it's a matter of physics. Unless the tackle is 100% properly timed, it will fail in the refs eyes. Which is impossible. I mean how can you get all your tackles correct when you have tricky players like Messi and Ronaldinho? It's their job to trick you and if you slightly miss it's their fault as much as it is the tackler's. However, people who go in with the intention to do grievous bodily harm should be stopped, but they are in the minority.

yup he definately gets results alright :D he's turned blackburn into the new whipping boys.. i guess nice football always wins in the end, you can only bully other teams so much, but skill will always win

You seem to have a very selective memory for an Arsenal fan. George Graham's "boring, boring Arsenal"?

I'll be honest and say I've only been a fan of Arsenal during the Wenger era, Wenger's Arsenal is the only Arsenal I know

Robbie Savage is a nut.... i look at some1 like Scholes and he is one of the best 'aggressive' tacklers of the game since ive watched.Being an Arsenal supporter you still have to admire a hard worker like him. Arsenal lack someone like Vieira .... we play too much fancy football and at times you need a hard ass mofo in the centre there to set things straight. ahhh remember all the Keane vs Vieira moments :p

Vinnie Jones - PSYCHO

Vinnie and the crazy gang. They were awesome!!

*sigh*

They don't make 'em like they used to...

My favorite story about Vinnie (and I don't have any proof of this, but it does sound very Vinnie-esque) is when Wimbledon were down 2 goals at half time and Vinnie was pissed off (obviously) practically chucking his players into the dressing room. Two of them came out with black eyes and they scored 3 goals and won the game... LMAO
