Howzit champions,
I need help with an idea I have been toying around with I want or need help to either build a site, I do not have the technical know how on where to even begin with this, the setup should be more or less the same as Mybroadband where you will be allowed to register and sell things and a section on articles and updates about the community, projects, donations etc.........
Cost will also be a major issue as well as I will be funding this project out of my own pocket. Please guys had this on my mind for quite sometime now so any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Step 1) find a script, there are opensource ones i.e free or paid ones like the one myBB uses, vbulletin
Step 2) after finding script and requirements find suitable host and setup hosting and domain
Step 3) install script
Step 4) Modify to your use (this is the only real part you may struggle with imo without experience)

or

Step 1) find a web developer who will handle everything and charge you accordingly

What is the idea behind this community website? as there are already so many that unless you target a very specific niche market it will be very difficult to make it a success
 
Thanks D3x well I think I need to find a developer thats is going to the be easiest way, its mainly to educate, share information, sell items, advertise work etc but based around a certain ethnic group and their lifestle habits later on it will also have information about each area and how much people live in the area kinda like a registry/social network and depending on the hits make it mobi or some parts of it. Dont also forget to earn some revenue hey:D so rigt now I need to try and get a developer onboard
 
i think self hosted wordpress will work great for you.
there are plugins for Classifieds and Forums which are fairly easy to figure out.
get decent theme to make it look nice and professional.

heck should not take more then a few hours, however the tough bit will be getting visitors!

yep true wordpress could work, wordpress is fantastic!

and yes very true driving traffic to the site is the most difficult part of what OP wants to do and most often the most ignored.

I have seen some work you have done so if you willing to get onboard and quote the OP for a setup i can vouch for you ;)
 
Okay guys well I gonna need a lot of tech support hey....lol...so I am gona need some real help hey but will read up on wrdpress, traffic is not a problem I got that covered in a way....it will spread like fire cause I been doin quite a bit in da community and I wanna add a gossip column also....lol

If I may ask Naeem how much would you have to charge me on a project like this? I think my brain died on the first of December so I am gonna need all the help I can get
 
If you want someone to create a wordpress site, click 'plusing', 'search', 'install plugin', then you're probably looking at R2000 and a crappy site.

If you want something decent looking then you're probably looking at R20 000 and up.
 
These days you dont need much experience with setting up a fully fledged dynamic website. There are tools such as Wordpress or Joomla that can handle/create CMS (Content Management Systems). Although, I don't know how to use those theyre so complicated.

With regards to the forum (where people can talk about things, sell, etc), you can get a free forum, Simple Machines Forum is a very powerful, and yet free forum. you can download this forum system at www.simplemachines.org . NB: You will need to get keyCaptcha installed (to prevent any spam) on your forum.

Things such as photo and video galleries, you can also download scripts that do this for you for free or you can pay to get the best of those.

You could learn how to create your own dynamic site from scratch, thats what im trying to learn now, you can use video tutorials as well as an ebook to do this. Or if you have cash, pay someone to do all the building for you.

I have been building something similar to your idea: www.theblackappleonline.net , I used HTML, a tiny bit of PHP (for the news databases + downloads).

If you want to build something like this, then I recommend you get your hands dirty and learn a bit of PHP, HTML is really simple and a bit of MySQL.
