Hi Guys :)

As anyone experienced a 'dead line' while telkom work on converting their lines?

Thanks
Aharon

By 'converting' do you mean that you had a telephone line and then applied for adsl?

If so then yes, that happened to me, although just a call to their support desk and a few days was the solution.

Now that you mention it, not sure if its the same situation though.

Got the call from Telkom yesterday that my adsl was activated. Plugged the modem in but no dsl light so checked the line by plugging in a telephone, no ringtone. I logged a call with Telkom to test the line today - not sure if its related to line conversion as I had some lightning damage on other equipment - TV & DSTV LNB - a couple of weeks ago. I seldom use the line for phoning so would not have noticed if it has been dead since when.

Yep - I mean converting from an analogue line. When you say it happened to you how long did they take to reconnect the line? The faults reporting is a disaster!

I logged a fault through the help desk, and by the grace of god, it was fixed in a few days :p

@Aharon
I have a client, who happens to live less that 1Km from the exchange, asked me to apply to have her line ADSL-enabled on 30 April. The line has been dead ever since. As for the fault reporting "service" - what a joke.

Hey Dave, Thanks. Basically it does look like there is some correlation between conversion and dead lines.
I like the 10219 number - people knowledgeable and helpful usually... the fault reporting as you put it, is a total joke...

Yip, seems like there's definitely a link between dead lines and adsl conversions:
Had an analogue line and requested it to be adsl enabled in February. Telkom phoned on 1st April to say it was 'successfully' converted. Got home that evening and my line was completely dead. After countless calls to follow up on the fault which I reported on the same day (and some 'inside' help), it was eventually resolved on the 20th April.

Good luck!!
