A few questions about Netflix

I'm not (yet)?) a subscriber. First I'd like to know what they're offering but I've not been able to figure out how to extract that information. So here are a few questions to people who might know the answers.

I'm looking at the page https://media.netflix.com/en/only-on-netflix#/new?page=1

1. There's a link at the top named "Only On Netflix" (which is what loads the page we're on). Are the items listed below available only on Netflix, in other words not available through streaming via any other service?
2. Is there therefore a separate list of items available on Netflix which are also available via a different streaming service? It would perhaps be called "On Netflix and Elsewhere" or something similar. I don't see anything like that on their site.
3. How do I search to see whether or not a movie or series is available on their service? There's a search link at the top right-hand corner of the page but if I enter, say, "Gone Girl" as the search string (I picked it because a MBB article said it was available on Netflix) it returns seven Press Releases, none of which contains the words Gone or Girl in the title.
4. I understand that in South Africa we have a (very?) reduced list of items available, compared to a USA subscription. I'd like to be able to identify which of the items in their lists are available here. There is a column heading "Distribution" under which one of a few possible entries could be listed per item:
a) Global Original
b) First Run Non-US
c) Original
d) First Run
(there might be more)
Some of these have additional qualifiers, such as "Global ex. UK/IE" or "All territories except Canada" which are self explanatory as far as those countries are concerned but I don't know whether "All territories" or "Global" specifically includes South Africa. So my question is: which of these "Distribution" identifiers include South Africa as a distribution country?

TIA

Get an app called just watch you can compare on there

Weird, worked for me a couple of weeks ago.

The lag/buffering is quite bad though

It most certainly didn’t.

You probably did something else that you forgot about, or it never actually changed to US and you just think it did.

Could be, but I was quite certain that it was the US, or at least, a non-ZA one, since the series I was looking for was not available on the ZA site.

Although at some point during the playback, there was a warning message about me using a proxy/VPN, which it said was not allowed.

8.8.8.8 is just Google DNS.

It doesn’t do any region changing or anything special like that.

It simply correlates domain names to IP addresses. Nothing more.

If you want to watch stuff not listed on the ZA site, change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 on your router and you'll get access to the US version
No. You are wrong.

Despite having a 20/20 mbps fibre line, during an hour's viewing, the picture stops for about one second at least 6 times

Its an Apple TV 3 and a speed test shows 6ms ping, 21,4 mbps down and 19,01 mbps up

Any suggestions?

That speed test isn’t on device itself is it?

Could very well be a local networking problem.

What do other devices do?

No, I used an iPad. The wifi signal comes off an Airport Extreme which is connected to the router via a LAN cable
There are two desktop computers attached via a LAN cable to the same router. They seem to work ok, although I don't watch TV on them

It is a Microtik hAP ac2 fibre router. The ISP supplied it but I have been asked not to alter anything and also do not know the login and password

Just sign up, I finally gave in and did it and you will be suitably satisfied as my family was.

So you haven’t tested Netflix on any other device to confirm and eliminate where the problem lies.

Okay...
