Hey all

Im a newbie whisky drinker.I'd like to buy a bottle of decent amber.
Anything under R200 would be my budget...

thanks in advance

I would for example say that Glenfiddich 18 and older is... good.

Bunnahabhain 12 Year... having of that right now.

I'm fond of the irish stuff, jamesons & bushmills, doubt they are under R200 these days.

If you drink Bell's you may as well drink Black and White... same thing but R50 cheaper.

100% agree with the above said choice ... another would be Knights or JW Red or Famous Grouse. Local made; try Bains or Three Ships.

My dad, being a hardworking whisky boff, always claimed that the different between expensive and cheap was the fact that both did the same job, however the cheap stuff was rawgut, that could be felt in the morning.....

Shirts and all....

I think Bains is under R200, and its local.

Bains is about the best of the under R200 bunch... it was on special for R180 recently, with free glass.
Ballantines is also a nice budget Scotch whisky, at around R170ish a bottle.

There is also the cheap Three Ships 5yr old for under R150... tastes like rotgut to me.

The nice stuff is all over R300 nowadays.

Nope, both well over R200, alas.

You are going to get crap for under R200 rather spring a extra R100 and check you normally get Chivas for under R300 at Makro.

Remember drink neat generally room temp or just a tot of water if you prefer .

Slight OT bit here;

I just stumbled across http://whisky.co.za .
Their pricing seems great and courier charge very reasonable.
Very convenient and cheaper than the bottle shops around here.
Anyone ever used them?
