A n00bs rant.. Hellkom strikes again.

Yes, I know. Youve heard it all before.
A few months ago, I decided to get myself a landline. Since Ive read all the rants about Neotel and Telkom, I decided to go with the old saying: Better the devil you know.
Anyway, heres my rant: Once I ordered my line (Closer 2 Calling plan), the wait began. To my surprise and especially considering the posts Ive seen here, Telkom sent a technician in EXACTLY a week later. Yes, he battled to install the line as the walls at the flat where I live are bladdy thick! Wifey told me he actually drilled 3 holes with a loooong bit that just wasnt long enough :)
And Happiness prevailed!
Till...
Get home 2 days after my line is installed and its dead. Nothing.
So I wait till the next day and give telkom a call. I held on for _JUST_ over an hour before I was greeted by a guy who couldnt understand what I was saying. So I ask to speak to someone else and the idiot disconnects me.
The anger starts...
I call back and another eternity later, I get through t ANOTHER IDIOT. So, after a further fifteen minutes on the phone, I am EVENTUALLY put through to a chick who actually logs the fault and gives me the ref number. So the wait begins... 5 days later (Tuesday), I decide to call again. Surprisingly, I get through within 22 minutes and after some angry words, I am assured that a technician will attend to the problem within 2 days. 2 days later, I give them another call. YEAH! they PROMISE that someone will be there in 2 days!!!
So... I wait a week and call back. I POLITELY inform the consultant that IF MY LINE ISNT FIXED IN @ DAYS, CANCEL IT. The very next day, a techie turns up and sorts out the line in a few minutes (He actually called someone at his office and HE fixed the line. So all was well, until...
2 days later, I get home to find that I cant make any calls. So...
I call Telkom. I am politely informed that Y LINE HAS BEEN CANCELLED, AS PER REQUEST. I swore. I offended somebodys parents (among other things. Forgive me, Im coloured) and had to call ANOTHER number to have my service re-instated. Unfortunately, I have to call during office hours. So, the next day, I call, complain, bitch and moan and eventually, they inform me that I have to re-apply for a line. I tell them to **** off. I call back again later that day and a well spoken guy sorts it out in a few minutes... but I have to wait for a technician to come in and connect my line. Another week. Okay, at least its gonna get done. BTW, they had to go back and listen to recordings to verify that what I had said was correct and that it was actually their fault.

Anyway, EVENTUALLY all was good in the universe... until...
I decided to go Broadband. Since I already has a telkom line, I thought "Why not?"
hehehe...
I gave telkom a call and they IMMEDIATELY gave me my user details with a promise that my I would get a call a week later to let me know that I can use the line. I did a self install, since I already had a Mega 100 WR router :)
So...
3 days later, this techie gives me a call and lets me knw that my line was ready. So, I go home and all is well... I setup the router, get the line going, verify and start browsing. All is good! Until...

I got my bill this morning.
Ive been charged for DSL Fast x2, Closer 2 x 2, T1 All Access for March and April all on one bill. I queried and was told that "this is for your current bill, this is in advance blah blah blah...
So, Im waiting for next months bill and GOD help Telkom if theres something on there I dont like or understand. I ordered Do Broadband ( 1G int, 10G local) but I cant for the life of me figure out whats going on on the bill. If I put it up here, can SOMEONE explain it to me?

Also, what more can I expect from these idiots???
 
Please DO (excuse the pun) put your bill up here for us to view. You mentioned T1 billing? huh, sounds like somethings indeed wrong there.

Wow man, you've got ALOT of patience. I would have throttled someone after the first week/ few days.

Hope you eventually get sorted.
 
Is this in Cape Town?

I do begin to get the feeling that anywhere not in the North of Johannesburg gets the short stick when dealing with Telkom.
 
Isn't that Telkoms standard thing? You get double billed in the first month for the following month for all their services?
 
I'm in JHB north... hard my line installed within 7 days... had a fault fixed within 2 working days (called on friday and techie came on tuesday!)

was amazed with the prompt response... so I guess it all depends on where you live

Ill post the billing details later tonight. Considering my luck, my line will probably be down and I ll have to use 3G again.

At least Telkom has provided me with SOME laughs...:sick:
 
LoL, dude you got a lot of patience... I had a problem, i am in cape town, foned once to say dsl wasnt working in a space of 3 days 5 techs came out in 5 differnt vans. Fixed the line and a nice chat with a phone tech and it was sorted..

For dsl related queries phone 10215, they pretty quick. As for the rest, get a baseball bat go down to telkom and beat someone up dude.....

This is exactly how it appears on the bill. No changes. From this, Im paying for DSL Fast (Isnt this usage?), Closer 2, TELEPHONE Line rental and DSL Line rental. All on one line. Why do I get charged rental twice when its ONE piece of copper?
My question remains: Can anyone explain this? I understand the dates. BUT, where does the R166 for Closer and the R199 for Do Broadband come in? How can I reconcile this bill so that I can see exactly where the services I ordered and the extras are????
If these values include vat, theres gonna be some serious crap flying, cos I see they charged vat on the entire bill (after usage charges, which then amounts to just over R400. Somebody gonna get hurt REAL BAD!!!

Maybe I can shed some light if you weren't able to figure it out yet.

The 1st month you get billed pro-rata plus one month in advance.

Thats why one rental charge is lower than the other (Telkom Closer Option 2 26/02 - 03/03 12.68 vs Telkom Closer Option 2 09/03 - 08/04 32.28)

The reason u pay 2 rentals, is cuz its 2 different services running on one copper line. And no DSL Fast is not usage, its a service rental.

Also everything is billed separately on ur account so u wont see those neat quoted prices as advertised.It still works out to the same amount and u can do the math if u add ur rentals minus the credit and add vat... Plus u'll see a credit on us account each month too as the service is discounted cuz its a package.

Next account should reflect

Your Telephone Line 09/03 - 08/04 108.95
DSL Fast 09/03 - 08/04 133.33
Telkom Closer Option 2 09/03 - 08/04 32.28

Ill DEFINATELY take a look at my next account and post the f-ups here... thats if there are any.
Now, if I got that right, DSL Fast is rental and so is TI All Access? That means Im being charged rental THRICE(DSL Fast, Your Line, TI ALL ACCESS, YOUR TELEPHONE LINE... ALL RENTAL!!) for ONE piece of copper? No wonder their lines are stolen so often!!!
