A pdf collation, pagination and general document bundling solution

Basically any suggestions for decent program that allows me to flexibly assemble document bundles with a consistent pagination running throughout.

At the moment between MS Word, PDFCreator and pdftkbuilder I am able to do most of what I want but its a genuine schlep often.

A multiplatform option is best but something that only runs on Linux or Windows is fine. Mac exclusives are out.

The related question is, is Adobe Acrobat XI worth looking at- I hated earlier versions

I'd probably look at pdftkbuilder

Adobe Distiller?

If you can write software there are other options to automate it.
