Hi

I was wondering whether the following device on the link below cannot be used to connect the USB cable of your Neoconnect device (a Huawei terminal) to create a Wifi network? The link below refers:

http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/Huawei_D100_Router

3 (or Three) is a Cellular network provider in the UK, Hong Kong and a few additional countries. They sell this little device for £68 or about R1000. You can stick any of your Huawei USB sticks in this device to instantly create a Wifi network. Forums on the internet indicate that all Huawei data modems have been supported but I could not find any person that used this with the Neotel type phone. I am going to buy on today and will return to SA next Monday, maybe someone would like to test it?

It would have to have firmware or drivers for the device you are plugging in. Thats why people are saying that it works with 3 mobile's device and not with some of their older devices as it was made by another manufacturer. I highly doubt you will be able to use the Neotel Phone on this but hey if someones willing, give it a try.

Sharing your NeoConnect USB connection is do-able, if you use your PC/Laptop with Windows/Unix as router. Search for threads of how-to's on MyBB.

As far as the 3 device is concerned, this will not work, at least not until you install the correct drivers on the 3 device, which is much like the NeoFlex data router, but with the modem attached via USB cable. Most of these routers are "prepped" - read with drivers for Hauwei modems. The Neotel Modem used in Neoconnect is a bit of a dark horse - a Du Pont modem, and only reference to that on Google brings you back to this forum. When you have hacked the 3 or any other router, let us know, it would be great to test as well.

Also, this external modem, very popular in USA, (Hauwei, mostly, used by Verizon,Sprint, etc), are not available here by Neotel, as i doubt they would be able to handle the stampede, as this is what the consumer wants. All the MTN & VC 3G customers can't be wrong!

Also saw a Netgear router announced at CES that supports a select amount of USB 3G modem through the USB slot, that would also be cool as it would be a simple plug and play.

Just buy one of those USB wifi dongle's, I paid like R120 for mine. And I use my PC as a Access point, and my VPN is quited secure.
