A question about twin and earth

Cut a very long story short, can one take 2.5 twin and earth, strip off the white covering and run the neutral, live and uninsulated earth through pvc conduit/trunking and a hole in a double course brick wall? None will be exposed. Ends terminated by a plug socket on 1 side and sub DB on the other.

Simple answer. Yes.
 
Yes, the wire needs to be double insulated. Whether thats the white sheath or PVC tube doesn't matter.

can you back that answer up with the relevant regulation number .(i wonder if its ever been thought about in the regs ,never seen it mentioned before as the cable has its own regulation and once stripped fully is no longer compliant . its a very strange question) , to coc that i dont know if i would .

The important part is 2.5 mm sq for a power socket, live and neutral insulated. The PVC conduit through the wall is a neater job than just a hole through the wall. If just a hole through the wall, leave the twin earth outer insulation on rather.

An aside. I hate twin earth with a passion. I much prefer stranded wire with Live, neutral AND earth insulated.
 
i would rather coc it intact with the screen on.once stripped its no longer in spec .if the individual wires are stamped 300/500v then fine but im not sure they are .i will look but i personally dont like twin and earth .

It's the uninsulated earth through the hole in the wall that concerns me. I need to buy more twin and earth for this phase of the project so hopefully I can find a place that will rather sell me separate live, neutral and earth cable per meter, all insulated.

The reason for this problem is I have to get 2.5 electrical wire and an insulated cat 6 cable through a 12mm hole in the wall which can't be made bigger. 2.5 twin and earth plus the cat 6 won't fit. Hoping the individual wires WILL, alongside the cat 6.
 
I'm more interested to know if the cat6 is allowed with the electric wire in the same conduit for coc.

I have a similar problem as op, but decided, since I have 2 conduits, I will use a Fibre cable with the alarm wire in 1 conduit and dedicate the 2nd conduit for electric.

You are not allowed to run AC and DC in the same conduit. Typically you keep voltages the same as well.
 
Not sure I'm following. Are you suggesting the I dividual wires in T&E aren't up to spec and the plastic insulation suddenly ensures they are?
The outer screen is what makes it compliant the inner must be 14700 compliant for conductors inside of a cable. Once stripped it is no longer a cable. But loose conductors thats why your lawnmower cable has a sheath over the conductors and is not just loose wires, by putting loose conductors inside a trunking doesnt make them double insulated it makes them protected. Can you show the regulation that says it may be done? i would really like to study it.

Regulations dont advise for communication cables and power cables to be run in the same conduit, the risk of shock is very high,

That cant be certified, its outside of 10142.in seperate conduits, ie data seperate, yes

You cant just force elect wires through a hole, risk of overheating is very real, you also cant just lay wires through a bare brick, the wires may overheat and cause a meltdown making the data cables live, i say may, there are standards that dictate the minimum size of the conduit, SA specs on cables are very good so i doubt it would ever fail but if you want a coc, it would be challenging to approve it.
 
Update. Added 2hrs to my Sunday worklog because I ended up drilling a second hole to run the T&E in it's own hole+trunking combo. I have put so many hours into this inverter project that I decided to just do it properly for COC sake.

it will be worth it .keep the spacing between ac and data wires to at least 2 inches even if you have to make little seperators .if they terminate in the same outlet .
 
I think the intended of the requirements was back in the day to prevent the 50 Hz AC from inducing noise onto the old analogue telephone wires of TV aerial cables.

Still good practice non the less !
yes it was .even today the more load on the ac side the worse it will become .but even so never combine the 2 in a non seperated channel and will be even worse in a conduit .at least this story should have a happy ending .
