A quick question for the more knowledgeable Android users.

iPhone when using dual sim allows you to use cellular data from sim 2 to effectively give sim 1 a signal when out of coverage (a bot like a Wi-Fi network does with Wi-Fi Calling).

Anyone know how to do similar on an android dual sim phone (or know of a specific phone that can do similar)?

With Allow Mobile Data Switching turned on, the status bar shows that Network Provider 1 is using 5G, and Network Provider 2 is using the mobile data of Network Provider 1 and has Wi-Fi calling enabled.

I've got an A33 Samsung, when sim 1 has no data reception, it automatically goes to to sim 2 for data.

I think Android has an option with those dual-sim phones to select the "data" sim-card.
Never heard of SIM 2 sharing it's cellular connection to "forward" connectivity for SIM 1 to continue to have coverage by Wi-Fi calling, unless I'm confused here on the question.

The cheapest option here, is to get another phone making a "hotspot", or you just get a mobile wifi router with the second "SIM".

No, you've got it right, I was hoping that Android would have introduced something similar, but it looks like it isn't possible yet.

It's been around for quite some time on iOS, I think it was @Spizz who first mentioned it a couple of years ago.

This is what ChatGPT say

Yes, many Android dual SIM phones allow you to use cellular data from SIM 2 to provide a signal for SIM 1 when it is out of coverage. The feature is known as Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) or Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA), depending on the phone model and manufacturer.

To enable this feature on your Android dual SIM phone, you will need to go to the Settings menu and select the "SIM card & mobile network" option. From there, you should be able to set your preferred SIM for mobile data and select the option to use the secondary SIM for data when the primary SIM has no signal.

Note that not all Android dual SIM phones support DSDS or DSDA, and the specific method to enable the feature may vary depending on your phone model and manufacturer. Some popular Android dual SIM phones that support this feature include the Samsung Galaxy S series, OnePlus phones, and Xiaomi phones, among others

Yep, I was using a local sim card data as Wi-Fi in Myanmar and it would allow me to use my Vodacom sim to phone home for 'free' using Wi-Fi calling.

This was on a Chinese issued iPhone 11 with 2 x nano sims.
