Thats good to know, is the quality better and file size smaller as well? What application are you using to encode with h264? I would like to give it a bash.

I mostly use an OsX application called Handbrake - one stop ripping and encoding. AFAIK there is now a Windows version available called mediafork.

h264 is an incredible standard IMO. I'm using meGUI as a front end for x264 (an open source implementation of MPEG4 AVC \ h264) to transcode rips.

The quality and file size depends on the many, many, many... settings available for the x264 codec, but in general, using the same bitrate and resolution (as in ASP - Xvid, DivX, etc) you will get an encode that's quite a bit higher in quality.

Nero Recode supports h264. I find it the easiest way to encode movies.
