A resignation question

I never understood why people resign without actually talking to their bosses about their work issues.

I resigned two weeks from my job because talking was fruitless. Even the MD made excuses for the terrible work conditions. Now another colleague wants to resign after they made him a terrible offer to keep him. One thing I have learnt is that most senior managers don't care about their staff, more so developers.

That's illegal. They must pay out for all accrued leave.

I think they are only obligated to pay out statutory leave?
Non-statutory leave is completely discretionary, so they could avoid paying

I doubt it's illegal. More a matter of common practice. Of course your employer can agree to allow you take to leave, in which case your official employment period is still to the end of the notice period.

It is illegal based on the Labour Relations Act (or Basic Conditions of Employment Act, can't remember now)
