You an expert on this? I am not. But, from what I have read, a mushroom plug is far safer. But tell us more how a cheap plug will never cause a blow out?

You're the one making the assertion about danger, you should back it up.
I've been patching tyres and having tyres patched with the kit I posted for the last 20 years with not a single issue.
Blowouts are caused by either hitting something or severe under inflation. If the patch is done right you've got more chance of a leak from another nail in the tyre than from the plug. If you hit something it doesn't matter how your tyre was repaired, you've got bigger problems.
Disclaimer : talking only about a puncture in the tread. Sidewall damage = new tyre, not negotiable.

Yeah it anything it might leak again.

It's certainly not going to "pop".

Have used the same kit on bike tyres for temporary repair and done 700km without a problem.

It deflated when it stood for a week and then I took it in to be plugged from the inside.

These kits are essential when offroading. Imagine finding a SQ top of Sani's pass or halfway through a river trail.
 
Just for some context around the forces and pressures involved here...

Assume the plug has a surface area of 1cm^2

2.5 bar tyre pressure equates to 250000N per square meter, or 25000kg per square meter, or 2.5kg per square centimetre.

So the force pushing on that plug is equivalent to 2.5 kilograms. Not exactly going to strain the glue.
 
Normal plugs usually work well. I have done quite a few without issues. Only the last one started to leak again, then I had the mushroom plug put in from the inside, which has a lot bigger area to glue to the tire and it cannot be pushed out. It is a lot better, and would be preferred if you do a lot of highway travel (even though the normal plug should also be fine).

And I agree with Sinbad, these plugs won't cause a blowout. That is caused by tire damage or overheating. Although if the plug starts to leak and you run the tire flat you can destroy the tire as well. It is difficult to see on low profile tires.
 
I've had 6 plugs put into one tyre at a garage before at the same time, did about another 10 000km before I replaced the tyre without any issues

Hum most places, in Cpt at least, do it for 40 bucks or so. Which includes taking the tyre off the rim

Which is why I prefer a patch/plug fitted from the inside as the tyre pressure itself is what ultimately holds it all together and there's no road surface that could pull or eat away at it.

But obviously as a temporary fix a self-fitted plug isn't a problem, I would just still take it to a shop and have it taken off the rim and fitted from the inside.
 
Mushroom plug from the inside is best. Anywhere from R40 to R100 depending where you go. TWT often do it for free and just ask that you tip the repair guy.
