I promised a mate I would do a simple few-page website for his business - just some text, images etc.

Then.... Mweb dropped their ' build-your-own-site-from-a-template' service !

The last time I built websites was around 6 years ago and I either hand-coded in notepad or used HotDog. I think we were using HTML 2 at the time, and there was no java, asp, xml etc - just plain simple html.

A table here, some text there and a hyperlink somewhere.

I don't want to spend weeks on this one testing resolutions, cross-browser compatibility etc.

Is there a simple template based product available or what we used to call WYSIWYG builder that will simplify the process.

I still have a little dignity left so won't go the route of doing it in MSWord or Publisher....

Was thinking of going the template route.

Are they customisable in any way ?

I would need say,... home, about, products, gallery and contact page.

Yeah they give you the complete source at http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/
Even the PSD files so you can change the images easily.

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, the layout are all css & divs as well, no tables

does anyone have anything to say either positive or negative about withtank com as some of the kids at school are building basic sites (under 11's) and its R99 per month or 1000 per year. The owners seem to be thisarmy not sure if they are a cc or PTY but paying by credit card is a labour intensive process you fill in online and then they send you a debit order pDF which is aurhority for th charge and you fax it back. It seems that once one kid latches on then all want to latch on.
I compared with Godaddy basic and Godaddy worked out to R500 per year considerably cheaper as its on promotion(excluding the domain name which is where withtank is quite useful as you can pick any domain name (especially useful for ones not available) and add withtank as a suffix and either keep it or redirect your own domain) seems simple enough. The fact you can cancel any time is also a plus. Anyway does anyone know about them ? Are they members here? Would godaddy's basic build a website package be any more useful for the kids?
